Shawn woke up from a dreamless sleep abruptly, falling into consciousness out of a featureless void. He was on his back, face to the pale ceiling above him where he could see the passing shadows of a ceiling fan’s blades. Barring the top and bottom sides of his vision were dark blurs like the inner visor of a helmet. The first sensation he was aware of, shortly before the cool bedroom air wafting across the exposed section of his face, was the intense weight settling on his mouth and forehead. He blinked a few times before darting his eyes around to gather where he was. He recognized that he was in his bedroom, likely on top of the mattress, but the only thing hinting that was his very limited vision. He tried lifting his head. Whatever was on his face put a quick stop to that. He closed his hands and squeezed something dense like muscle. Whatever was sitting on his face was settled around his entire body too, both on top of his torso and beneath his back. His legs were tied together and his arms were pinned to his side. He felt the weight of it all settle on his chest like a small anvil, keeping his breath shallow and quiet. It was terribly warm, close to making him sweat. He started to realize where he was. Yes, he was in the bedroom, but he was not alone.
“You’re awake,” purred a smooth voice. “I was hoping I hadn’t suffocated you.” Shawn felt the constraints around him shift and slither across his body. Something panned into his view, inches in front of his face. It was the head of an enormous snake, Shawn’s current captor. She was an albino Burmese python, an enormous one whose entire length wasn’t required to keep him within her possessive wrap. Her scales were a creamy white, broken apart by a motley assortment of yellow splotches that sat on the top of her head and continued all the way down to her tail which was resting on the top of his head in a tight swirl. The scleras of her eyes were a sharp yellow, centered by ochre irises and black slit pupils. Softening her powerful gaze were plush lashes which seemed to flap like wings whenever she blinked. Her head was bulky and strong, although still appealing thanks to her brilliant eyes and cunning smile. Her forked tongue darted through the small hole in her lips, scenting the air in front of his face.
That was Seria, Shawn’s roommate and friend. The two of them had made a habit of cuddling with each other whenever Shawn got back home from work, or on the rare occasions the two of them slept in the same bed together. She was both a joy and a thrill to have coiled around his body thanks to her pleasant immensity and warmth. Dozens of yards long, she made herself an exigent presence inside their house, wherever she was. She could be found lazing around on furniture in a massive coil, forming into a giant mountain of scaly flesh. When she moved from room to room or floor to floor, her seemingly endless body would slither across the floor as a yellow and white tube as thick as Shawn’s thigh, sliding itself forward slowly until finally it tapered into the tip of her tail and slinked away. Shawn never felt alone with her in the house, not when she probed him relentlessly for how his day went, what he had planned, or how he was feeling. Being reticent around her wouldn’t work. Her talent of literally squeezing information out of him was unparalleled.
This was his first time waking up in the middle of her swirling embrace, but it didn’t surprise him at all. She had a habit of sauntering up to him wherever he sat or laid down, whatever the time of day or whatever the occasion, if there was one. He had gotten home after a long and hard day at work, exhausted and sweaty, wanting nothing more but to fall down onto the bed and pass out. He had hardly spared her a word beyond telling her that he was finished for the day and that he was going to take a nap. Clearly that wasn’t enough, and he was paying for that debt now. No wonder he didn’t have any dreams. She warded them away like some kind of living dreamcatcher.
“Sleep well? You were awfully tired. I came in here and found you asleep already. I thought I’d keep you warm,” she told him. She had done a good job of it. Shawn felt like he had been swaddled within a heated lead blanket kicked into full blast.
“Ufflmmmgrhmmm…” he said, muffled by the gag of her body.
“What was that sweety?” she asked, tilting her head towards him.
He rolled his eyes and squirmed his head around, trying to slide his mouth up into the gap where his eyes were. She did him the favor of loosening her grip, widening the space so that his entire face was exposed. The tip of her tail slid off the top of his head, revealing a shaggy mop of brown hair. He gasped, taking in a mouthful of fresh air. “Ah… I said I slept pretty good. Didn’t feel you come into the bed or anything.”
“Oh, of course you didn’t. I’m insulted that you think you think you would. You know I’m as soft as a feather and sly as a mouse.” That much he had to admit. For her incredible size, there wasn’t a single space in the house she couldn’t creep into without him noticing, even if it was the bed he was sleeping on.
“Yeah, that’s for sure.” He tried jostling his shoulders around, but her grip remained firm. “So, are you gonna let me get up or are you gonna keep me here forever?”
“Well, I don’t know. I might just keep you wrapped up until I get tired of looking at you.” The tip of her tail slid down from his hair and tickled his brow. “And you are awfully handsome, I dare say.”
He rolled his eyes. “Thanks. That means a lot.”
She flicked her tongue at him, tickling his cheek. “It better. I don’t say it enough, you know. I’m sure all of the human girls go crazy over you.”
“You sound like my grandmother.”
“Well, you’re grandmother’s a wise woman. Aren’t all elderly folk?”
“I guess, but the girls would be a lot less crazy if they found out I live with a monster snake who loves to smother me.”
“Who are you calling a monster?” she asked with an indignant dart of her tongue.
He gave her a bemused look. “The 400 pound snake currently holding me prisoner.”
She harrumphed. “Well in that case I think I’ll just keep you here forever.” Her coils tightened, squeezing his cheeks together and forcing some of the air out of his lungs. “I might just suffocate you while I’m at it.”
Breathing was hard, but he could still bite back. “Please do, that way I won’t have to deal with you anymore.”
Her tail came down and caressed his cheek which was starting to turn red. “Oh, sweety. You aren’t getting rid of me that easily. I’ll keep you on this bed until one of us starves, and I’ll have you know that snakes have very, very slow metabolisms.”
Shawn gulped, trying to keep his struggle for air hidden. “Oh, I’m very familiar with your eating habits.”
“Are you? Do you know how often snakes eat humans?”
“Can’t be too often, if you haven’t done it to me already.”
“Consider it a blessing, then. I think about it every day. ‘When am I going to eat that poor roommate of mine?’”
Shawn cracked a smile. “And then what’ll you do for money? Remind me who earns the bread around here.”
Seria smiled back. “And that’s the only thing keeping you alive. Keep it up, or else one more nap and you won’t wake up.”
“Yeah, right. Sure thing.” He tried wiggling a little. He wasn’t getting anywhere. He sighed. “Can I at least sit up?”
“Sure, why not?” She loosened her coils around his torso, allowing him just the tiniest amount of leeway. He sat up with a deep grunt, straining his abs through the effort. The moment he was upright, her grip on him regained its prior strength. “There we go. Better?”
“Better, I guess.” He looked down at himself and realized just how trapped he was. Not a single inch of her was off of him except for the very last few feet of her head and neck. He was wrapped around by several layers of her body, forming something more like a chaotic knot than a single spiral. Even so there was much of her top portion left to spare. If she wanted to, she could totally envelope his head and feet, the only remaining parts of his body still exposed. He squirmed his hand around and managed to find a small gap between two sections of her body. He pried his fingers into it and slid his hand through it. Beyond that portion of snake was only more snake, forbidding his digits from feeling the freedom of air. He grabbed a handful of her body, feeling the smooth yet segmented texture of her scales. Though her skin gave way under his fingers, what lay just beneath was a very significant core of powerful muscle that wove itself across her body from head to tail. She was gentle with him, but that belied her ability to grind him into jelly if she so pleased. Any other person or animal in his position would’ve been saying their prayers. If it was any other snake who had him like that he would’ve been a goner. But it wasn’t. It was Seria, one of his closest friends and trustworthy housemate. With an apex predator’s entire body wrapped around him, capable of slaughtering him at any moment, he felt safe.
“Gosh, I could fall asleep like this if I didn’t just wake up,” he said.
“Go ahead.” She slid some of his hair off of his brow with her tail, letting her see his eyes better. “I’ll be with you the whole time.”
“I know you will.” He yawned. “How long was I out?”
“At least three hours.”
“Dang, and how long have you been on me like this?”
“As soon as I saw that you were asleep, so about the same.”
That sounded about right. “Are you gonna do this from now on? Every time I sleep?”
She gave a slight tilt to her head, mimicking a shrug. “If you want me to. I don’t mind cuddling up with you whenever I have the opportunity.” She closed her face in with his, nuzzling his brow. Her tongue flickered across his nose. “As long as you don’t mind.”
Shawn could feel the joy ripple through his body like an electric current. He could do nothing to stop himself from smiling. “No, I wouldn’t mind that at all.”
She smiled back and gave him yet another friendly flick of her tongue. “Good.” Her body started to shift around him, loosening the knot around his body. Suddenly he could feel the freedom return to his limbs. She didn’t leave him entirely. The greater portion of her length remained settled across his torso loyally. Now, however, he was granted the privilege of returning the favor and cuddling her back. He slid his hand deeper through the gap between her coils and made it through. A moment of groping and he found another which he quickly slid his hand into. His fingers came back into the world, born out from between two portions of her body. The bedroom air, still being fanned down from the ceiling, felt cool on his clammy palm and digits. He gave them a good wiggle, happy to have some leeway. He didn’t indulge for very long. He hooked his hand back onto her body, grabbing a nice handful of scaly skin and dense muscle. He rubbed it back and forth, feeling the smooth yet unmistakable grain of her serpentine dermis. There wasn’t a part of her he didn’t want to feel, not from her pale underbelly nor to her threatening jaws. She was a tremendous luxury just to touch. Having her wrapped around him so kindly was just too good for him, or so he thought.
Seria couldn’t have disagreed more. She appreciated his touch with a soft murr and tongue flick. The tip of her tail curled and caressed his hair, playing with every disheveled lock it could grab onto. It fell down his forehead, past his nose, and down to his chin. It scratched at his soul patch, a tiny square of scratchy fuzz she liked to tease him for, yet she secretly adored. Her tail tip came back up and squirmed across his cheeks, pinching it like he was some child. Comparing their sizes, he certainly could’ve been, though for her he was more of a man than most she knew.
His other hand peeled out of her and hugged another section of her. He tried wriggling his legs free, but they were buried under too much of her. She loosened herself further, unraveling off of his legs and allowing them some exposure. He flexed his toes and rolled his ankles in a circle. He took the big toe of his right foot and carefully slid it down the direction of her scales. A shiver rolled through her. Her body tightened again, restricting his body but keeping the limbs she had exposed in their places.
“Ah…” he wheezed, surrendering to her strength. There wasn’t anything he could do to stop her, but of course he didn’t want to. She was going to return the favor, and he was going to enjoy every second of it. Her body slithered across his, maintaining an even squeeze throughout. He felt her warm scales slide across his skin, pulling on his shirt and shorts along with them. He heard the schiffing sound of her body gliding effortlessly, seeming like it would dart into one terrifying crush at any moment. Nothing of the sort would happen, and he knew it. He trusted her dearly, just as she did him. Her face loomed back in front of his. She brought her muzzle down onto his cheek and nudged it like the rumping head of a kitten. He nudged her back, eyes closed, wanting nothing more than to feel her intimacy forever.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and she pulled her head away. “I enjoyed that a lot,” she said.
He blinked a few times. He had to float back down into reality, off of Cloud 9. “Y-yeah. So did I.”
Her colossal length finally unraveled, transforming from a chaotic ball into a length of nope rope haphazardly splayed out across the bed in front of his lap. He caught himself from falling onto his back, he had been supported by her for so long. Her absence was a void like a freshly removed cast or limb. He shook himself like a wet dog, happy at least to be free in the fullest, finally. Seria reared her head up until she was eye level with him. “Well, now that that’s over, be a sport and cook us dinner, will you? All that squeezing builds up a big appetite, you know.”
“He rolled his eyes, yeah I bet it does.” He had to admit, he was pretty hungry too.
“Yeah, now get up and make us a meal before I make one out of you.” She slithered off the bed, a process that took several seconds thanks to her exorbitant length. Shawn watched as she went, waiting until the tip of her tail vanished beyond the door frame. As he got up he realized how sweaty he was. Being locked inside of another animal for a long time wasn’t the best way to keep cool. Not that he cared. He got off the bed and made his way to the kitchen to make dinner, smiling from ear to ear, unable to wait for his next sleep.
