You're out walking in the pacific northwest, enjoying the cool autumn wind. The peaty smell of wet leaves makes you nostalgic. A noise from the brush startles you and a whitettail buck leaps over your head, landing opposite you. It stops, stock still and turns to look at you. looking into those big, beautiful brown eyes fills you with a sense of serenity.
Then it opens its eyes. tens of them, all along its antlers, each one of them trained on you, watching you, scrutinizing you. A sense of unknowable dread overcomes you before the creature suddenly bolts away as quickly as it appeared, leaving you unsure of what you'd seen.
