Welcome to Djerkwotr - a jerkwater town in the midwest. This small town was originally settled by nordic explorers and eventually became a frequent stop on the rail line through Minnesota. By the late 1950s it had grown into a respectable community.
Djerkwotr was a campaign using the Americana system, in a fantasy 1950s that never was, the 1950s that people get all nostalgic and teary eyed for, where there was no systemic racism, mental healthcare actually existed, and, oh yeah, there are orcs, elves, skeletons and plant folk.
The common folk living in the world of Americana are as follows:
Arboreals - Treefolk that can grow plants on their bodies like a living garden.
Dragons - Varied and unique dragonfolk that can change their appearance by reentering their egg over about a week.
Dwarves - Stocky badgerfolk with industrious minds, they say they came from the hollow earth, but no one can find it.
Elves - Graceful and elegant deerfolk who have been here since the beginning, and try not to make too big of a footprint.
Goblins - Small folk with big ears that allegedly came from the future and won't talk about it.
Humans - The bog standard folk you probably already know about, except with a lot more wool and curly horns.
Orcs - Big unnaturally attractive pigfolk that seem to experience time nonlinearly and see life as a battle.
Skeletons - Deaf mute undead created by Charlemagne to conquer hell. They couldn't find hell, so they rebelled.
Were - Alien wolf folk that arrived on a meteor, conquered half of europe, then apologized for it and settled in.
The characters, from left to right are:
Jackie Duglan - A cool-guy greaser dragon that plays guitar with a garage band.
Moone Moon - A sad boy were who was cursed into a donkey by a magic mirror, Casey's boyfriend.
Gabbi Erlantz - An orphan Unicorn under the care of the local church of Sol, the only one of her kind.
Nul Draake - A terminally moist dragon nerd studying hydrodynamics and magic.
Casey-Jay Eden - A social butterfly that ran with every clique, experimented with drugs, and turned up dead in a magic circle.
Bagdishnak B Bagdishnak - The school himbo heartthrob. A physically fit orc that runs track and wrestles, and is mostly unaware of how hot he is.
Devi Johannas - An extraplanar entity made of tentacles roughly shaped into human form that plays football.
Ronnie Baltimore - A car crazy greaser were studying magic so he can work on cars.
Kassie Nova - A mysterious girl that looks just like Casey but with huge tits, she showed up the day that he died.
Jackie, Moone, Gabbi, Nul, Bagdishnak, Devi, and Ronnie were invited to Casey's house so he could show them 'something super cool'. When they arrived at his home, they found him cold and dead laying inside of a scuffed magic circle, along with a few severely burned books containing notes on magic circles.
The police decided the death was a 'magical accident'. Two days later a girl that looks suspiciously similar to Casey, named Kassie shows up in town. With Casey's Diary as their only lead, it now falls to the teens themselves to find out what happened to their friend, and what's up with this weird doppleganger.
