Burning Flame of the Inner Witch: Dragon to Human TFTG
I wrote this story for my good friend LtColonelWhipper
We had an RP like this a long time ago, and now I'm happy to have a story written! ^^
Hope you enjoy!
Every day as Colin woke up, it was a simple, mundane routine for him: Fly out, hunt for food, eat, drink from the lake, fly back. Nothing noteworthy to mention about his life, except for one thing. A few years ago, a group of witches built a brand new magic school for up and coming witches eager to learn magic. As your typical dragon, Colin had the stereotypical ability to breathe fire and he had the typical reptilian green scales one would expect most dragons to have but these witches could learn many different types of magic. This is magic Colin began to yearn for.
He watched from afar each weekday as the witches discussed magic from their professor, Minerva Smith, the best witch in the country. She had more knowledge of magic than most people have of everything. Professor Smith could teach you anything, but only if you had the commitment. She knew how to bring the best of even the laziest of students. Colin saw how one of the witches would goof off all day, not caring or paying attention to what was going on. Instead of ignoring or scolding, Professor Smith started goofing off even more, which made the student try harder. That spark grew into an inner flame that produced greatness within her.
“Why can’t I have something like that?” Colin asked himself. “I’m just a magic creature that is destined to always be alone. I’m the biggest predator out there, and most people would either run away or try to slay me. Oh, what I wouldn’t give to be a human. What I wouldn’t give to be one of those witches. If the stars can hear me, I’d be willing to give anything to become one of them. I don’t have caves of gold and riches, but I’d give my old self up to become one of the witches.” He begs to the stars one night.
That night, as Professor Smith was organizing and cleaning up her classroom in preparation for the lecture the next day, she saw something in her Crystal Ball. In it, she saw a shooting star zip across the sky, and what looked like a dragon to her calling for help to become a witch and the next scene was the dragon turning into a young, beautiful witch.
“May the stars never fail to amaze me; it looks like I’ll need to prepare another desk for a new student!” Professor Smith tells herself with a delighted smile on her face. “If I could help this poor dragon out I could, but humans don’t have that type of magical power. Well, combined it’s possible, but my students haven’t matured their magical energy, and most other witches and wizards I imagine would have less than noble intentions. But I do know someone that can do the trick!”
Professor Smith went to a special fountain and placed her wand in the middle of the water, and out came a beautiful fairy, one of blonde hair, green wings, green boots, and a yellow dress the color of a warm sunshine.
“Oh! Professor Smith! Quite the surprise being called after so long! Hope nothing is the matter!” The fairy asks energetically.
“Sierra, nothing is wrong at all, but I just had a vision of a new student coming to learn about magic in my class, and I need your help.” Professor Smith requested Sierra the fairy for.
“Help? What would a fairy be needed to bring a student to you?” She asked.
“Well, you see this particular wannabe witch is a male dragon living in a cave not too far from here, and you’re the only being I know with the magical ability to transform a large dragon into a human witch.” Professor Smith explained
“Wait, you’re telling me a powerful dragon wants to become a witch? Why?” Sierra asks.
“I didn’t see the why, but in the vision the dragon looked much happier as a witch than as a dragon. Perhaps when you go up to him in the cave, you can ask him yourself.” Professor Smith offers up as a suggestion
“Well, I am intrigued to hear what this dragon has to say. I’ll be on my way!” Sierra says as she flies away to the cave only a few minutes away.
As Colin stared at the night sky from his cave entrance, he saw a bright light coming towards him, and it was indeed Sierra the fairy.
“Hello?” He asked Sierra.
“You must be the dragon from her vision.” Sierra tells Colin the dragon.
“Who’s vision? You mean, about my wish to become a witch? Are you here to make this happen?” Colin asks with excitement in his voice and evidenced by his tail wagging back and forth.
“So, you really want to be a human witch. A younger female witch?”
“Yes, dear fairy I do!”
“Just tell me one thing, what’s a strong powerful dragon like you wanting to become a weaker human?” Sierra asks.
“Many reasons. I see how happy everyone at that school is. Being able to socialize is something I haven’t done in centuries. Dragons are known for being reclusive and non-sociable. I want to change that and be almost reborn in a sense. There’s got to be more to life than my mundane existence day in and day out, and that’s why I’d wanna give up this form for a new start.” Colin tells Sierra who sympathized with Colin.
“I didn’t expect your explanation to be so moving, now, before I transform you, is there a specific look you had in mind? It will help me create your ideal form initially. Once you are human, you could easily make adjustments to your appearance as needed when you learn the required magic.” Sierra advises Colin.
“Well, I would like to be on the younger side as I’d be new to everything, maybe 13 or 14. I like brown hair, long flowing brown hair with dark brown eyes. I feel that color really screams warm and friendly in my opinion. I’d be what they’d call “Caucasian” with lighter skin, short fingernails to not get in the way of casting spells. I know the uniform is standard, but it’d be nice to have a green belt to remind myself of my old form. Lastly, for a name with my new identity, I think Vivia would be a good name for a witch.” Colin tells Sierra.
“You really thought this out in great detail, Vivia. Now, this isn’t going to be a *poof* and you’re a witch. There are a bunch of steps I will need to take to transform you into your new form.” Sierra informs Colin/Vivia.
“Ok. No need to explain, just do your magic and I’ll follow along. Wait, it’s not gonna hurt is it?” Colin/Vivia asked.
“Not at all, magic transformations are completely painless!” Sierra explains.
Sierra waved her magic star wand and surrounded the dragon in a circle that began to shrink into itself. As it did, it caused Colin/Vivia to shrink in size, going from a massive dragon beast to a small dragon, until eventually a human sized dragon. Looking around, the cave looked so much more roomier than before. That of course is a result of his smaller stature.
“We’ll need to remove some of your animalistic traits next.” Sierra tells Colin/Vivia as he feels his tail begin to shrivel up and go back into his spine, compressing until there was no dragon tail left. Next to go was his wings which simply fell off of him and fizzled away in a burst of flames. The last part to be removed was his horns which shrunk into his head.
“Now, the piece de resistance! Scalus scheddius!” Sierra cast the big spell that started shedding Colin/Vivia’s scales. His scales fell like rain from his body as soft, human skin was revealed, from his formerly clawed feet exposed dainty feet, muscular legs full of scales gave way to skinny legs. His belly shrunk to that of a young skinny individual, and his arms and hands going the same way as his feet and legs.
His neck started to compress as his dragon neck shortened into a skinny neck, and his face began to push inward. The sharp dragon muzzle turned into a human face, his hair turning into short brown hair as he was still in a masculine form.
“Oh my… this is absolutely incredible! I never felt so light and soft before! But what about the feminine features? Also, I could use some clothes. I feel more self-conscious about my appearance for some reason.” Colin/Vivia asks Sierra.
“I’m getting to that, just letting my magic recharge. It takes a lot of magic to do what I just did, so while we wait for that to happen, do you have any other questions or concerns you want to run by me? It’ll only be a few minutes before I’m ready.” Sierra says.
“Well, I’ve never been a woman before, and since you’re female, can you give me some pointers or advice? And I realize that I may need this cave spruced up to look like a “normalistic” place to live. Would I be able to create something of my own? I also need to know that I am human now, but how will I be able to get the magic the other witches have?” Colin/Vivia asked Sierra in a barrage of questions.
“Ok, I didn't expect so many all at once… so where to start. I guess you might be thinking about female anatomy to start with, and it’s nothing much. Your chest and plumbing may be weird when being used to the masculine body. You will be much younger and at an all girl’s witch school, so no temptation of wizard boys.
In regard to your “man-cave,” once your magic is developed, you’ll be able to transform anything into furniture. I can help with some basics like a table, bed, and a dresser since you won’t be able to make that yourself right away, but everything else will be up to you.
Speaking of magic, once I finish your transformation, I will place a special mark on your chest above your heart that will supplement you with your magic force. It will provide you with your magical energy for the rest of your life regardless of what form you take. No one can ever take that away once you have it. Your magic will recharge after you use it, but if you use a lot of magic at once, or you train a bunch, you can run out and you’ll feel a pain in your head and stomach letting you know to stop.
However, the more magic you’re able to successfully cast, you’ll be able to strengthen your magic to not only be able to use more powerful spells, but you can also recharge faster and recharge to hold more magic.
Now, it is not possible for you to reach certain magic like that of a fairy. We are the ultimate magical beings, and only we can perform the most powerful spells. However, compared to others, you may have a distinct advantage because you’ll always have some dragon traits inside of you. I imagine you’d be able to perform any fire magic once you train hard enough.”
Sierra took a few deep breaths after her lengthy explanation of the questions. This was also a cue that her magic was recharged enough for her to make the final changes to the former dragon. She flew down and drew a magic circle on Colin’s chest and outgrew a small pair of breasts, his plumbing becoming that of a female variety. Finally, Sierra produced a liquid spell, not to be confused with a potion that she had Colin/Vivia ingest.
Doing this made her voice more feminine, and her facial features began to bloom into a young lady’s. Her hair grew long down to her lower back, nice and wavy. With one last flip of Sierra’s wand, the dragon known as Colin was officially dressed as the human witch known as Vivia.
“Ha ha ha! I can feel it! I can feel the magic flowing through my veins! I have never felt so happy Sierra! You made my wish come true! If I ever become a super powerful witch, I’d love to repay you the favor one day!” Vivia the witch tells Sierra with a strong sense of gratitude and gratefulness.
“No worries about that! I’m eager to see where your journey leads and takes you! Maybe to a faraway city, maybe a simple farm, who knows? See ya around!” Sierra says before vanishing away. Vivia couldn’t wait for her first day of witch school!
She turned around and looked at the basic furniture in her cave home. Vivia was so focused on her own transformation that she didn’t notice the white sheeted twin bed with lace covered pillows, a chestnut dresser filled with multiple sets of clothing, a table for studying and eating, and a couple lantern posts for lighting so it wouldn’t get so dark at night. Although her eyes could still see better compared to an average witch due to her draconic lineage, they still weren’t as strong as before.
“Well, I guess it’s all a give and take, but the sacrifice of my old self is more than worth it! I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed!” Vivia excitedly tells herself as she lays in the bed, immediately taking a liking to the soft mattress and rolling around in her brand new bed. She was giggling like a child just taking in the simple pleasures of having a bed when she’s curled up on a bed of rocks in her previous life.
It didn’t take long for Vivia to fall asleep though. The softness of everything made her prone to sleepiness that much quicker. Tomorrow was going to be her first day of magic school. What exciting things was she going to learn? What magic will she be able to use? Morning couldn’t come soon enough for Vivia.
Hours of the night flew by as Viva continued to soundly sleep in her bed, until the rooster on a local farm crowed out loud which quickly woke up Vivia.
“I better get dressed for class! Oh wait, what am I going to do for food? I don’t know how to use my magic yet. Perhaps I should’ve asked the fairy to provide some food until I could make my magic make food.” Vivia realized as she got herself dressed for class and began making her way there.
It was weird not flying to class as she was adjusting to not having wings. If she could learn flying magic that would fix the problem, but for now, it was just a pleasure stroll through the forest for a mile and a half before arriving at the school.
“Hey there, haven’t seen you around here before. You must be new here. What’s your name?” One of the other witches asked Vivia.
“Hello everyone! I’m Vivia! I live by the cave a mile or so away. It’s a long story, but I recently discovered I have magical abilities and I want to grow and nurture them here!” Vivia tells the group.
“Hope you’re able to keep up Vivia. We’re a month into the school year, so you have a lot to learn in a short amount of time.” One of the witches, this one with green hair said in a snide, confident tone.
“Now, now, I’m sure Professor Smith will be patient. It’s not a competition Vera. You have to pardon her, she’s under a lot of pressure as her family is one of the oldest families of witches and she has a lot to uphold. My name's Annielle! Pleased to make your acquaintance Vivia!” Annielle says, shaking Vivia’s hand.
“Thanks Annielle! I’m just happy to learn anything I can! All I care about is being able to use magic, and if I need to take more time to do so, I don’t mind!” Vivia says.
“Well, that’s a good attitude to have Vivia, now if you and the other girls can take your seats, we can get started on the lecture for today.” Professor Smith tells the girls as she arrives. Everyone took their seats.
“Now, as you have noticed, we have a new witch here with us, Vivia. She was a late bloomer when it came to magic, so we will do a quick recap of what we’ve gone over. Each week we learn a new type of magic. Day one is knowledge and book related learning. Every type of magic requires knowing the fabric to which it’s based upon, and without that knowledge, magic might as well not exist.”
Vivia was prepared to take notes, but all of the professor’s words were recorded on her paper.
“You don’t need to worry about writing, she gives us all verbatim notes that we can replay if we get lost when reviewing it.” Annielle tells Vivia.
“Second and third days are for beginner level magic where we cast simple spells and under some circumstances potions. Fourth days are for advanced level magic which requires more power and studying to perfect. The fifth and final day is for combat with the designated illusions. For new witches and wizards, it’s the safest way to train and build magical power. Vera, could you kindly recap what battles are?”
“Sure. Battles are a quick way to grow magical power. Because most of us aren’t strong or experienced enough for real combat, the illusions allow us to test our skills with little risk to our safety and health. Victory gives us more experience which translates to more power, which means more magic energy. It’ll take 1-3 years for us to try real combat. Winning doesn’t mean killing or seriously injuring your opponent, it means out maneuvering them to a point where they tactically cannot win, and even losing can provide experience, albeit in lower levels.” Vera explains with a smile on her face.
“Well expressed Vera, you are living up to your family legacy! Now, Annielle, since you are sitting next to Vivia, you can help catch her up on what we’ve learned.” Professor Smith tells her who nods in agreement.
“So, week one we discussed the art of flying on a broomstick. While witches can fly without a broomstick, it provides balance and control, so the witch doesn’t fly out of control. Week two, we began brewing potions. It’s like chemistry where we mix liquified magic, earth elements and other ingredients to create different potions. The one we worked on was a simple hair changing potion, nothing harmful for beginners. Week three, we developed the casting techniques with our wands. Oh! That reminds me, here is your wand. It’s infused with the scale of a dragon, and the horn of a cow. Last week, we began our first spell type, fire. We shall continue from where we left off.” Professor Smith said as she began writing on the board.
“So, for your wand, it’s all about the flick of the wrist and wrist motions. It’s not just the spell words, but how you wave your wand. One of my psychic friends said that in a parallel universe without magic, it’d be similar to something called a “WiiMote.” I believe she referred to it as motion controls, where making the right motions casts the right spell. The more crisp the movement and the clearer you enunciate the spell, the more efficient and powerful your spell would be. If you make an incorrect motion or say the spell wrong, it won’t cast. Don’t worry, nothing will explode in your face.” Annielle explains to Vivia so she could perform basic magic.
“Good to know. And I was told about magic that could make food pop out, or make furniture? I have something I want to confide in you after class or if we have a moment alone.” Vivia whispers to Annielle.
“Can’t wait for you to tell me!” Annielle whispers back as Professor Smith begins the lecture.
“Now, fire is something that can easily go out of control in nature. It consumes oxygen which creates the burning effect. That is why when you pour salt or cover a flame with something, by depriving the oxygen supply, you can easily extinguish the flame. The spell we learned last week was a spell using pure fire, but this week, we will add an air burst to the fire spell to make the fire stronger. I’ll demonstrate the two spells outside so you can see the difference. Follow me class.” Professor Smith says leading the class outside to a set of targets.
“Yakedo!” Professor Smith says flicking her wrist like a whip towards the target and burning the bullseye.
“Apotefro!” Professor Smith says flicking her wrist, making a slower whip motion, and this time, the fire not only burns the bullseye, but it also incinerates the entire target.
The whole class applauded the professor. “Wow! That was pretty cool!” Vivia said, trying to take everything in.
“Now class, you try, But one more thing, make sure you are focused and keep eye contact. If you don’t have a focus, then your attack will be weakened since the magic won’t be as concentrated. Same with eye contact, but it’s more for aim. If you break eye contact, your aim will be off-center. Hence why the bullseye and not a simpler target. These targets also replenish themselves so we can use them repeatedly.” Professor Smith explains.
Everyone lined up behind the first set of drawn lines as they got into position. The professor figured a couple students would catch on quickly, so if they got far, they could try longer distance casting. The line started out 15 feet away and increased every 5 feet up to 50 feet, a level for experts, and something to motivate students to reach their max potential.
As much as Vivia wanted to jump right in, she was a little hesitant. Never having cast magic before, she was unsure about making a fool of herself if she were to mess up. It was an unusual feeling as when she was a dragon, Vivia was fearless. Now, she was a little more meek. She simply watched the other witches before she would begin.
It was underwhelming a bit as no one was able to get it cast on their first try. Often it was the motions that weren’t quite right, but some were mispronouncing the spell, and a couple of them didn’t say it loud enough. Vera was able to get it on her second try. It wasn’t dead center, but she got close.
Seeing how Vera was able to do it as she took a couple of steps back to the longer distance, Vivia took a deep breath, focused on the center as she pointed her wand at it, and concentrated her magic. Remembering the motion of the spell, she took her whip stance and shouted “Yakedo!” and to her surprise, an even more powerful burst of fire shot out from her wand, completely obliterating the target, and burning the grass 5 feet behind it.
Everyone stood in shock seeing how strong the basic spell came from Vivia’s wand. “My my Vivia! I’ve never seen such powerful fire magic from an individual before. You must be a natural fire witch with such strong fire magic that you demonstrated. Try stepping back and see if you can maintain it.” Professor Smith says as Vivia eagerly steps back and attempts to recreate her powerful spell with success.
As Vivia stepped back, Vera was determined to do her best as she was very competitive. From 15 feet, she was able to get her spell dead center as Vivia and Vera both got further and further away. Vivia’s spells were still powerful from further away while Vera’s were beginning to fizzle out a few feet from the target beginning from 30 feet away. It seemed to be her limit while Vivia was easily able to destroy her target from the 50 foot mark.
“I am quite impressed with you Vivia; I didn’t expect you to catch on so quickly. Vera you don’t need to feel so down, you did a phenomenal job. You were the only other one able to make 25 feet.” Professor Smith tells Vera who was frustrated she couldn’t match Vivia.
“Well, I believe that’s class for today, you all recuperate and recharge your magic for tomorrow. Have a good rest of your day!” Professor Smith says as the witches head back home except for Annielle and Vivia.
“Do you want to see my place? Maybe we could catch up on spells later today?” Vivia asks Annielle.
“Of course! You also mentioned you had something you wanted to share with me?” Annielle asks Vivia.
“Oh yeah! I’ll tell you when we get there.” Vivia says.
“Hang on, I can help you fly there. There’s a spare broomstick in the class you can use to fly.” Annielle says as they walk back to the classroom to pick up a broom for Vivia to use.
“So, I imagine you’ll be able to pick this up quickly given your performance today, but you put your legs on each side of the broom and you sit on it. Make sure you have your wand secured because this type of magic requires your body to use it instead of a spell. It’s all internal focus when it comes to broom riding.” Annielle explains as she demonstrates by pressing her legs against the broom as she levitates above the ground.
“If you want to get into the technical details, this would be considered wind/air magic.” Annielle says to Vivia.
“I think I got it, and would we steer by leaning and tilting the broom in the direction we want to go?” Vivia asks as Annielle nods. Vivia takes the broom in her hands, gets in position, focuses on her legs and feet to get herself on the ground, and she quickly gets airborne.
“Shall you lead the way?” Annielle asks Vivia.
“Of course, but how do we not fall off?” Vivia asks realizing a glaring concern about how she’s only sitting on a relatively thin broomstick
“Oh, that’s part of the magic. You are essentially glued to the broomstick, and if you lose balance, you’ll be upside down. If that happens don’t be scared, just grip tight and rotate the stick 180 degrees to get resituated.” Annielle explains.
Vivia nods as she leans towards the direction of her cave as Annielle follows close behind. Vivia went slow as she wasn’t used to being high up as a human. She wasn’t quite fully trusting of the broomstick compared to using her dragon wings. But this beat walking, and it was only a few minute ride compared to a longer walk. Vivia carefully got off of her broom laughing at how it was quite the experience flying for the first time.
“If you don’t mind me saying, I never expected someone like you to live in a cave, usually it’s dragons that used to live in caves. Did you slay a dragon or something to get so traversed in fire magic?” Annielle asks as Vivia took a deep breath to prepare for her big reveal.
“Actually, the reason I live here, why I was so new to the class, was because I used to be a dragon.” Vivia confesses to Annielle.
“WHAT? YOU? You used to be a powerful dragon? Did you get cursed as a human and recently changed back? Were you cursed to become a human?” Annielle asks in total shock and surprise.
“Truthfully, I wanted to be a human witch and a fairy answered my wish last night. I imagine Professor Smith may have had something to do with it, but after living hundreds of years alone and in isolation, I wanted something more to life. Being a dragon wasn’t going to fulfill that because of the attitude most people have to dragons. Either slay for power, fear them, or train them as pets/weapons. I did not want to experience life like that. When I saw the school we go to pop up a few years ago, I envied the students. New witches eager to enhance their magical abilities, which seemed like the ideal life to me. Any strength I had as a dragon was worth the sacrifice to be a witch.” Vivia tells Annielle in detail.
Annielle took a minute to absorb the bombshell Vivia dropped. “That took a lot of courage to admit Vivia. Makes sense that you’d be so well versed in Fire! But you know how strength in one type of magic almost always means an equal or lesser weakness in another. So you’ll probably struggle with ice and/or water magic. Unless, if it involves boiling water or magma then you might still be able to utilize those types well.”
“Thank You Annielle! You really are a great friend I can trust! You’re the first person I have told, and I bet the professor already knows. If you can, could you not tell anyone else until I am ready? I don’t want to be known as the dragon student or the dragon witch. I just want to be known as Vivia the witch.” Vivia requests of Annielle.
“I cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye I will not tell anyone! Just one more question, male or female dragon?” Annielle asks one final question.
“I was a male dragon named Colin. Will I one day desire to return to my draconic state? Maybe. Would I be open to changing my form to a different being or even an animal? Sure. Am I happy as a human witch? I sure am! I’m going to enjoy this as long as I can!” Vivia says.
“Well. I hope to be with you for as many steps of the way as possible!” Annielle says sharing a friendly hug with Vivia as they begin studying up on the magic Professor Smith taught them, and from the books Sierra had left for Vivia.
“Oh! The fairy that transformed me must have heard what I said and left food for us! I know I will be able to create my own food, but I haven’t learned that magic yet. This will definitely help me until I do learn that!” Vivia says peeling an orange and quickly eating it as Annielle peels a banana for herself.
“That would be very helpful to have! I’m fine with my parents making food for me, but they’d notice if I didn’t eat my lunch packed for me, and I’m sure they’d notice if I had a lot more to eat.” Annielle tells Vivia.
“We’ve got years ahead of us to learn all this magic!” Vivia says with a smile on her face as she and Annielle look forward to their future endeavors together.
THE END for now
We had an RP like this a long time ago, and now I'm happy to have a story written! ^^
Hope you enjoy!
Every day as Colin woke up, it was a simple, mundane routine for him: Fly out, hunt for food, eat, drink from the lake, fly back. Nothing noteworthy to mention about his life, except for one thing.

“Many reasons. I see how happy everyone at that school is. Being able to socialize is something I haven’t done in centuries. Dragons are known for being reclusive and non-sociable. I want to change that and be almost reborn in a sense.
