"Fruiting Stag" 11x11 acrylic, acrylic ink, coloured pencil and blackwing pencil on arches hot press watrcoloiur paper. I'm sure some going to wonder what I'm trying to sasy with this painting. Bests me, A lot of my art is more visual musing than thought out themes and concepts. I'm just letting g my muse go where it will. Inspiration comes from all over the place. Like I explained earlier the main concept came from a misinterpreted photo. The markings on the stags antlers, neck and background are based on stone carvings from the fantastic NewGranage site in Ireland. I was there a number of years ago and stored away the impression in my mind for future works. And they decided to pop out on this painting. Travel means you build up flashes and concepts that you can dip into years later.I have a little text artist group where we share sketches and works in progress to so we can discuss and critique works. Thanks to the girls for suggesting the colours in particular the russet glazing on the neck. Really love that. So often I work in a vacuum, it's great to have a place to get feedback.

I like the incorporation of Neolithic symbols! Makes this stag feel timeless and primal, to underscore the vaguely druidic imagery from the mushrooms.
