An image a week in the making. It's not a reaction to any singular event- but it's about a lot of things, including but not limited to: the tenuous nature of stability, the impending death of innocence, paralysis in one form or another, trying to stay brave, trying to stay gentle-
It's also about jackals, so now's as good a time as any to throw out there that I'm finally picking up Vaughn's story proper again, and you will almost certainly be seeing more of him and his little sis this year. (Much as I hate linking this in every description, I'll also kindly ask you not to make me tap the sign. Please have some courtesy before you comment.)
I've been working on this for about 23 hours total, anywhere from 2-4 hours a night. The kiddos themselves were scanned paper sketches; everything after that is digital and 100% rendered via mouse. (...how many others didn't realize I haven't been using a tablet this whole time?) I still don't consider myself much of a painter, and full realism is never going to be my thing... but I've put everything I have into this. Under the circumstances I really couldn't do anything less.

Wow, it's really apparent how much time and love went into this piece and it paid off in every way. The texture in the background and in the clouds really makes this extra special in my opinion.
I'm really impressed with your patience of pulling this off with a mouse, too! Wow!
This is one of those pieces of art that really defines your capabilities as an artist and one I'd love to see revisited in the future to see how much progress you've made over the years. <3

Oh my gosh, this is beautiful work. The rendering on their clothes and especially that towering storm cloud is incredible (especially with a mouse!!) I also really love how it both creates a scene that looks like it could be a real moment in their lives, but also is full of symbolic portent.
This piece has such an ominous but melancholy feel, it really captures serenity about to be lost forever by some impending doom. It's a great detail that Vaugn notices the incoming storm but his sister doesn't, it leaves at lot to ponder on about their personalities, relationship and the ramifications of the misfortune about the befall him. I also really love that she's putting the flowers into his braces, what a great touch.

This is 10000% stunning! I love the simultaneous mixture of ominous and sweet, the details on the cloud are so incredible and Vaughn's fur and shirt blowing in the wind. I'm still SHOOK that you did this with a mouse, you magical wizard. You should be proud!
You're the second person to call me a wizard about this so I'll tell you the same thing I told them: if I'm a wizard, I'm that dude in LotR who was just covered in like, bird poop and live rats.
