a part of me feels the first one might just be because Rhea's tired, while in the last one she is definitely doing it on purpose

Time flies when you're having fun... These two are still teens when it comes to the main comic and its story, but it's still fun for me to think of what they might be like when they're older. And it turns out: not THAT different, despite different hobbies and abilities XD
I thought the characters of slightly damned we're pretty much all adults to begin with
Nah, they're teenagers. Buwaro is close to turning 16, Kieri has been 16 for a little while, and Rhea is like 18.5. Yes, that's very young, but I was their age when I started the comic. I got older while they didn't!
Rhea looks like a Yakuza character. She would have a "crime family" of snakes that look scary but actually help out the community by watering hanging gardens and helping people cross the river. (And maybe the occasional spicy hypno cuddle. Better than melatonin, best sleep of your life.)
God yes. It would definitely look like super shady criminal activity from the outside; talk of body modification, "sacrifices", cult rituals... turns out it's just a weird, but effective and totally safe kind of spa. And of course, the hanging gardens are happy, too.
I have wondered about that... Since Rhea is technically dead, can she actually age?
For all intents and purposes, Rhea is currently 100% alive in the main comic. She just experiences some side effects like being weak to holy magic like Demons and seeing ghosts and stuff. It is also a mystery as to what might happen if she were to die again. But to keep things simple, yeah, she's alive, needs to breathe and eat, and she's aging.
Adult Rhea simultaneously looks like she holds the fate of the world in her hands, and is not inclined to be merciful, but also looks like if she stays standing for 30 more seconds, she’s passing out whether she likes it or not.
