I should probably play Earthbound on my SNES Classic before I read the books, to avoid spoilers.

Oh probably! Also I feel like the books mean more to someone who has played the games first. My one friend is reading book 1 before playing the game though, and has said he likes it that way, too (now the game will feel like a game version of the novel, he says), so who know which is best, really? 😂

Hooray! Good work. Translation brings a story to a whole new part of the world. : ) Don't feel bad about following your muse. You should do what gets you excited because that's what you'll do the best at.

I think you're right - it's also hard to do something I don't want to do (art) instead of something I do want to do (read/translate Japanese). I guess I just know it's risky to let art die out the way I have been, since it's literally how I pay my bills and since I also studied art so hard the past 3 years. I studied...so hard, and I can feel it all crumbling.
(Although I studied to try to make it easier/fix the relationship I have with it and when I saw that I worked my hardest and it didn't get fixed, I think that broke everything, too.)

I'm sure I'll rebuild a relationship with art someday, but I think for as long as I have this particular job...I'll probably continue to have this hatred for it - so at the very least, I'm glad to have another skill! AND IT ALSO MEANS I GET TO READ GAME NOVELS and I have so many Dragon Quest ones ready to go now. ❤
