The pic was inspired by this song
Snow falls on Christmas Eve, like every year. A night of celebration, of rebirth for someone,
an opportunity to spend happy moments together and remember past events in preparation for future ones.
Life in the castle of Prince Borgon flows happily and calmly even that day,
and for the occasion there is already a gigantic table set for all the subjects and friends willing to spend that usual annual celebration at the castle.
In retrospect, this wasn"t the case a few decades ago.
When Borgon was just a cub and the castle didn"t yet have its prince,
the thunderous shouting of hundreds of guests and party music didn"t echo within the red sandstone walls,
but all that was heard was only the faint sound of a few voices , the only inhabitants of the castle at the time.
Sir Cordiale used to sit in his warm armchair close to midnight, sipping good wine and eating biscuits, enlivened by some reading.
And often it happened that the door of his room would open, and that unexpected guests, who at that hour should have been in bed for a while,
asked him the courtesy of reconciling their sleep with some tale.
And the hare never failed in this "unexpected assignment". How could he ever say no to those lively and not at all tired little eyes?
So he took from his personal library one of the many collections of fairy tales he owned, and turned the words written on the yellowed pages into voices and sounds,
giving imaginative worlds and daydreams to his little proteges.
Many desire immortality without fully understanding the pleasure and curse of always remaining the same, without ever growing old or forgetting anything.
And so, years later, the memories of the past alternate in the mind of the ghost of the castle as clear and concrete as if he had just experienced them yesterday,
while outside the world goes on and changes, and his loved ones grow and mature.
Sometimes Borgon and Silva still ask the old hare to tell them some stories,
but nowadays on Christmas Eve they are both often too busy with much more important chores to do so:
after all, they are no longer cubs and each of them has long ago chosen their "role" in life.
Thus, over the years Sir Cordiale has developed a new personal "Christmas habit".
Those who have served at the castle for several Christmases tell of how, during the snowy eves, after midnight,
one can see a shimmering hare-shaped silhouette wandering non-stop through the large castle garden.
And to a fine observer it would be obvious how those apparently erratic movements actually follow a logic.
The snowflakes fall through Sir Cordiale completely, and mix with the trail of cold air that he now leaves behind him when he moves.
They then slip through his immortal body along with happy memories, still alive in the soul of the elderly hare,
in a whirlwind of warm and melancholy sensations and memories.
Those who have attended it speak of a peculiar sight, which takes the form of images and sounds from a distant past.
However, this apparently happens only on Christmas Eve nights in which the snow falls thickest and the wind blows in the form of a gentle breeze.
It almost seems like snowflakes willingly fall in abundance just to allow Sir Cordiale to bring that Christmas miracle to life.
And if you"re lucky, sometimes you can still catch him dancing in it~
Probably this is not the joyful pic that you expected.
However, I find that a bittersweet feeling at Christmas fits in well with the overall vibe ^^
