So... this couple saw an advert for some Halloween candy... https://www.furaffinity.net/view/44293915/
I tried to recreate that demon candy image style, but Genyun is just so good with lighting and reflection. I still have sooo much to learn. :)

Holy crap! I never expected this. Awesome!
For the reflections, I use a glass texture shader as a base :)

Oh... and if you're going to advertise your demon candy for Halloween, how could you not expect something like this!!! :)
A good way to judge your art quality is to try to recreate the style of another artist. This was a fun experiment. It's clear I've still got some work to do to catch up. :)
And the best form of flattery as well... ;) With the little bit of dabbling I've done with 3D, what you have accomplished has blown me away! Anything you do that builds upon that will be nothing short of spectacular! As a fellow artist though, I know how you feel about constantly wanting to further develop one's skills.
I think I've done well with the shaping and texturing. I think I'm good there. Genyun does something to make the reflections jump out that I can't quite match. I think maybe a few more coloured spotlights would make something of a difference. I'll have to play around with that and take into account what Genyun has said above. I also don't have the models for this sort of thing, so I've kind of faked it here. It's just a G8F character and a spider model. I picked up a G8M figure called Arkouda that I was able to overlay on the G8F character. It's all fun and it's all learning. There's no real point to any of this artwork other than just making stuff for fun and trying to get better with each render. :)
Most of what I do are free kitbashed models I get from places like Renderosity. I just make what I don't need invisible and try and align them up with the V4 models I use.
Most of the parts come from Insects, Xenomorphs and a Starcraft Hydralisk. Very few of what I use is actually store bought. I think the main exception is the Geiger skin and character packs from Daz.

See that's what makes both of your works all the more amazing - the fact that you are utilizing free assets and working the software in a manner that creates such incredible blending and you're strategically turning layers on and off to get the right results.
Simply knowing how to use the software is a big part of the battle. It's taken many years of working with Photoshop, both self-taught and academically taught, to learn how to finesse the tools, blending, etc.
Point is, I love y'all's work and thank you so much for being great contributors!

Thanks! I've been at this for about 10 years, so I've picked up a few tricks in my time. :)
I've been going for about 6 years or so now (though I've been doing hand-drawn art and Photoshop colouring for much longer, which has given me a good understanding of how light and colour works). In the case of this render, the red skin on the human character is a geo shell. I've made a set of opacity maps over the years to fade out torso, arms, legs and faces to varying degrees and this lets me make a cool skin geo shell that I can overlay on a character and then use the opacity map to fade it out to whatever level I want. The one I used on this one I've called "neck down" :)
...and you can apply bump and normal maps to the geo shell that won't affect the original model underneath. So, basically, this render was done fully in DAZ and I only used Photoshop to touch up little errors I couldn't be bother trying to fix when I previewed the render.

Very interesting! I understand the principles behind what you're doing is not unlike layering in Photoshop, but I think I was having trouble wrapping my brain around the dimensional aspect of the layers and blending them when I was trying to use DAZ that left my head spinning a bit. I am pretty proficient in Photoshop and have been using it for 20 years, so I guess I am so used to working two-dimensionally and stacking layers to create the right blending effects.
When I last played around with DAZ, I also found myself having trouble understanding how to manipulate the rigging/skeletal structures in place. I think I will stick to 2D manips and let you guys be the masters of 3D...haha
And hey, Fyedo, shoot me a Note when you have a chance if you don't mind. I have some TF info for you. (Not wanting to ask about tutorials, tips, or anything like that).

Unfortunately, not so great. You only have to look at the light reflection on the spider body in the background to see that there are a lot of mistakes. Overall. I'd go for "pretty good" rather than "awesome"... :) There's definitely room for improvement here.
Even if you think this is not perfect, it's awesome and we want to see more. For a moment, I thought I missclicked and end up in genyun's page.
