Commission for ealadubh
What to do when you need ingredients for your potion, but you've run out? Find a "volunteer" to provide them! You may need to prep them first, though.
In this case, a witch needed some wool of bat, so she volunteered Eala Dubh to provide it. The species of bat in question is a hoary bat, which is exceptionally woolly and therefore the perfect specimen to collect a good sample from.
This pic gave me a bit of trouble. There was a specific pose the commissioner wanted, but bat anatomy doesn't quite work that way. It took me a couple of attempts to find a way to draw it that looked like the pose without clearly breaking the anatomy completely. This still doesn't actually work 100%, but the points where it's off are very nicely hidden beneath the wing, so yay for cheating. I think a better artist than me could probably have figured it out better and faster than I did, but it's fine this way.
There are a few other things I'm not entirely pleased with. The textures don't thrill me, but the background just looked flat without something and I did not have time to try my hand at doing custom texture detail here. I minimized the effect as much as I could, but if you look close, you can still see that I'm using a repeating texture, but again, I think it's good enough for the time frame I had to work in.
And I love Bat Eala's grumpy little face. It's adorable.
