Life on Home world entertaining the other Diamonds has its highs and lows for Spinel as she gets bored whenever their busy with larger matters, so to keep herself occupied, White Diamond introduced playing card games to Spinel and made her a special deck of cards that could change in size so she could play with the other Diamonds if they were ever interested. With her deck in hand, Spinel practiced for weeks until she became a pro at black jack and would go on pestering Blue Diamond to play with her until she finally did.

Blue didn't take the game seriously and lost easily thinking the gesture alone would have satiated Spinel's curiosity....but neither she nor the other diamonds realized that Spinel's manic side was starting to take over once more, and the special deck of cards was far more special then White realized as to much of her power lingered within the deck and Spinel desired to customize her deck with special characters on the cards as her card flung into Blue Diamonds body and instantly turned her into a giant playing card which then shrunk down to normal size with her double sided visage on the face of it.

When Yellow began asking everyone about Blues disappearance, Spinel showed Yellow the card, but she dismissed it and told her to stop telling jokes in a crisis, Spinel then offered to play Yellow to win Blue's freedom and asked her to play the game, but Yellow angrily said no and began to storm off....Spinel was not happy as her manic side grew stronger and Yellow found a card thrown into her back for refusing to play, in a instant she was just a 2D image just like her sister.

Spinel wasn't having fun, Blue didn't put up any challenge and Yellow refused to play, so she went to White and asked her to play for Yellow and Blue's freedom, but White bluntly attacked Spinel for her treachery, but with her elastic limbs, Spinel dodged the attack and now her manic side was fully back as she felt utterly betrayed once again as the card she threw was powerful enough to even cardify white diamond......Spinel's collection was slowly growing.....but it wouldn't be any fun if nobody ever got to play it proper....that's when she got an idea.

Spinel teleported herself down to little Home world on earth, and figured she'd find someone to play with her, but her manic mannerism made it hard for anyone to really get what she wanted and politely asking not to play, and when that resulted Gem's being cardified in plain sight of everyone, things turned to panic as Spinel asked every gem in little Home world to play, and with each refusal her deck filled more and more and more until she cardified everyone in town including Seven, Garnet, Amethyst & Bismuth and got zero playmates, Spinel wanted to play cards and she only had 5 vacant cards left, but that was about to change.

Pearl, Connie, Lapis, and Peridot arrived in town after helping harvest some vegetables when they saw Spinel in the center of the ghost town playing with her deck of cards, enlarged enough to see the likenesses of their friends on them and listening to Spinel ramble about how everyone refused to play so she made them part of her collection, and if they beat her at Black Jack, then everyone would go free. Everyone readied for a fight, but Pearl kept a calm head and stopped everyone, telling them that if the Diamonds couldn't win in a fight then their efforts wouldn't work, Pearl took Spinel up on her game and the others agreed too.

After a detailed explanation of the game Spinel brought out a table and acted as the dealer as she shuffled the deck of their friends and dealt them out as they all had to try and ignore the familiar faces printed on the cards whose future depended on them, whoever won three games would be the winner and any who lost three would find life two dimensional from then on.

In the first hand Spinel got a 20, while Pearl, and Connie tied at 18, and Peridot went over 21 and Lapis didn't bother hitting at all and was stuck at 12, they were all on their first strikes and Spinel was in the lead.

In the second hand Pearl got a Black jack and won at 21, while Spinel and Peridot went over, and Connie and Lapis were under, Pearl had the first point of the group but Peridot and Lapis were both one loss away.

In the Third hand, Connie and Peridot tied at 19 while Spinel was stuck at 17, Pearl went over and bust, and Lapis didn't care enough to hit, leaving her with a 10 and her third loss.

- Lapis didn't seem interested in really trying, she figured she could just help they odds by being there and didn't put the effort in since shes been a object before and has faith her friends will win anyways as Lapis can feel her body begin to change as unlike everyone else who turned into a playing card instantly, Spinel wanted them to experience it slowly. Lapis felt a papery substance come from her backside as she felt her whole lower body smooth down and then press down as Lapis felt an odd sense of pressure without feeling any as it grew stronger and stronger, all the while the world around her got bigger as she grew smaller and smaller until she flew over and fit into the Palm of her new owners hand, The last rational thought Lapis had was the feeling that her mind was echoing, without any clue that below her was her mirrored double pressing into place until both became motionless, Silent, and placed into the deck as the Queen of Spades it was missing.

With Lapis gone, Everyone was determined to get her back, but Peridot didn't have the focus to pay attention after losing her best friend and wound up hitting when she had a 21 and going Bust while Spinel stopped at 17 and Connie and Pearl tied at 20, Now Peridot has lost three times and can feel the changes too as her body Smooths, Flattens, Mirrors, and Shrinks down, all of this feels like a rush to her, but all she cares about is being with Lapis as both her upside and downside faces smile one last time as they lay face down atop her card as Spinel teases their reunion too the other players who weren't gonna let her win.

It was just down to Connie & Pearl who only needed just one more win to save everybody and defeat Spinel. Brimming with confidence Pearl as she drew a 3, then a 4, then another 4, and then a Ace, Pearl has 13 points and if she doesn't go over on her fifth car she automatically wins with a Five Card Charlie as stated in the rules, Pearl makes her hit.....and gets a 10 of Diamonds but not just any card, Pearls eyes filled with tears as she saw Bismuth plastered on the card, both her expressions looked muted as Pearl Ran her finger across the surface of it as began to get pulled away by her losing transformation.

Pearl lifted off the ground and felt the card forming behind her as her body smoothed down and laminated to create the same slick surface she felt as she touched Bismuth, Pearl felt so insignificant by her close victory ending in failure which wasn't helped by the growing world around making her feel so small, which is exactly what was happening. Pearl could feel her mirrored half growing as her senses began to dull and the quietness of becoming inanimate was approaching, but before that could happen, Pearl did get a brief moment happiness when her other half whispers "She would be proud of you". Spinel picked up her brand new Queen of diamonds and saw the little smile on her face and remarked to Connie who she tied with in the previous round, how all her former friends are alot happier looking as cards (she's lying about Lapis smiling), but Connie was everyone's last hope, she wasn't gonna cave to despair, she had to fight for him!!

Spinel drew a 20 and had to stay at that, Connie drew 10, then a 8, then she drew an ace and was at 19 and desperately needed a another Ace or a Two, With the fate of herself, her friends, and the one she loved most on the line, Connie hit and the card......was a 7, Connie had 26 points and just lost. In a panicked attempt to still save her friends, Connie reaches for her sword and swings it right as Spinel's noodle-like neck, but not only does she raise her finger up in time to catch the blade, she runs her finger along the edge and shows off that the only damage it could do now.....was a paper cut.

Connie felt so defeated as she floated up into the air, her sword smoothed away into nothing as the rest of her body smoothed down into a vase shape like the others, Connie tried to plead with Spinel for double or nothing but when her mouth became just a two-dimensional image printed onto her face, Connie knew there was nothing let but to accept defeat as she grew smaller & smaller, flatter & fatter, and Connier & Connier as her mirrored side formed up with just enough time to try and cheer up the original, but as the card spinned through the air and landed in Spinel's hand, Connie's last thoughts were uncertainty which of them was the original.....before their minds when as blank and smooth as their coated surface.

Spinel not only won but she finally had all 52 cards completed with gems, Humans, and a half human printed on each to make it worth while, but now that Spinel had completed her desire, she decided it was time to join them and make it fully complete as Spinel casted the transformation onto herself and wound up the decks Joker as she entered the floating deck of cards, got shuffled and then sealed up in packaging and rocketed off to parts unknown, looking for an owner while leaving the ghost town of little Home world behind.

Several months later, a guy comes up to his friends telling them they have to play this game of cards, when they told them they'd rather play with their collectable trading card game, the friend urges them that they'll change their mind after one hand. Two of them play black jack and each is dealt one card, the friend intentionally deals the cards incorrectly so they could both be in for the surprise as they lift up their cards and see the Steven of 10 hearts and the other got the Garnet of 5 Clubs, suddenly they both glowed brightly, when the glow was over, they were both shiny like a shrink wrapped sausage and suddenly they both changed shape into Steven and Garnet, their voices were that of the ones they turned into but they were the size of the original people playing with no effects to their memory or personality as the one who became Garnet stood up and marveled at having transformed into someone else, but the friend who brought this up asked them to sit back down, the best part was still to come.

The Not-Steven dealt a second card, they got Connie the Queen of Hearts while Not-Garnet got Pearl the Queen of Diamonds and once more glowed brightly, only this time when they stopped they had become fusions, as there now stood Stevonnie and Sardonyx who were not the lengthy giants they usually were and like before were the highest of the actual humans playing and hadn't changed mentally at all as they stood their marveling over their shiny coated bodies, feeling like the surface of the cards themselves while back on the cards both had become the character they fused into. Everyone was going nuts over this and started trying different fusions for hours, having completely forgotten their collectable trading cards and were instantly the best thing ever.

But while on the surface the cards were now devoid of any life, inside the Two-dimensional cards everyone was alive and well.....both of them, every single gem and person now had two thoughts on everything, one that embraced what they were and the other that questioned it, leaving every cards expression trapped in a stage of confusion as they couldn't fully remember what they were before or if they had always been like this, either way, with no baggage of their old lives weighing them down, everyone found contemptment with their flat lives as they had their fun watching humans transform into these different characters they vaguely recognize and feel strange bonds tword other cards when their paired up, but that's just the game of their lives now, one that a sneaky joker rigged to make sure the house was bound to win. The end.
