Chapter 4
Though the pups may have gotten bored from waiting, they spent the next morning preparing themselves for Eggman’s attack, because Chase demonstrated to Sonic and his friends how his drone (among the other drones that the pups used) worked, and the live video that it shot revealed that he was planning to attack Adventure Bay. He genuinely thought the city was the perfect town to use to expand his Eggman Empire, since he thought it had the dumbest mayor that ever lived (because Mayor Goodway panicked and overreacted to everything, though there’s a chance she might have had general anxiety disorder), and the fact she had a chicken as a pet. He also claimed that because there was a statue of Chickaletta, the people worshiped her, but that was not true. It also didn’t help Vector’s hunch about the chicken was correct, but he felt it was best to let the mayor believe what she believed. (Chickaletta, however, really did ignore everything that was going on around her.)
Sonic and his friends watched with amazement on this morning, since they hadn’t seen the transformation that the Lookout was capable of doing. They watched the pups run into the elevator, and in a rare instance, Marshall didn’t make everybody else crash, although he crashed himself. He rolled like a bowling ball into the elevator after he lost his footing, and when the other pups ran in, he called out, “Strike!” Everybody chuckled as the door closed and the elevator began to rise, undergoing its transformation into the Mighty Pup version. “Wow, what a transformation!” Vector commented.
“Is there anything these amazing dogs can’t do?” Shadow added.
“Yes,” said Sonic. “They can’t let us down in defeating Eggman.”
“What a good answer!”
Ryder donned his trademark jetpack as the other pups went up the laser chute to the top floor, and to add extra insurance, he called in Tuck and Ella, the Mighty Twins. He didn’t have Everest, Tracker, or Rex on this occasion, but all of them could also be Mighty Pups when necessary. (Note Rex was the only pup Sonic and his friends hadn’t met yet; they had met Everest and Tracker on a previous occasion, and they also met Wild Cat when one of his stunt shows came to where the blue hedgehog called home, but it was a slightly different type of show, so he didn’t do his triple frontflip move known as the “triple alley-oop loop” that time. The cat was planning to do another show in Adventure Bay, though, and invited Sonic and his friends to watch it.)
“Ruff!” Chase announced as the pups lined up and their hands began to glow, since they were anthros. “AMPs (Anthro Mighty Pups) ready for mighty action, Ryder, sir!”
“Thanks, pups, and thanks, Tuck and Ella for getting here so fast,” Ryder replied.
“No problem,” Ella nodded. “Is the Ladybird back, though?”
“I’m afraid it’s worse than the Ladybird. Dr. Eggman is back, and he’s planning to launch an assault on Adventure Bay!”
“Whoa!”
“That’s big trouble!” Tuck echoed.
“Fortunately, we’ve already sent for Sonic the Hedgehog and his crew, and they’re down there waiting for us, as you can see.” The pups took a look down at the ground and saw the blue blur and his team, who gave them a wave, and in return, they howled with excitement.
“What kind of attack is he doing?” Rocky asked.
“His usual kind. One with an endless assault of robots, I think. Anyway, I need all paws on deck; this will take the entire team to pull off this victory. Mighty Tuck and Ella, I’ll need you to use both your super sizes, big and small, to throw Eggman for a loop. But he’s Sonic’s enemy, so he’ll be going after him first, I think.”
“It’s still time to think BIG!” Ella cheered.
“Mighty and small, I’ll give it my all!” Tuck echoed.
“Mighty Chase, let’s use your super speed working with Sonic and Shadow’s super speed so that Eggman won’t know where to go.”
“These mighty paws uphold the laws!” Chase cheered.
Because Sonic and his friends were listening to Ryder via special communicators of their own, the 10-year-old boy took the liberty of mentioning to Sonic, “Since Eggman is your sworn enemy, I feel I should let you take charge of the mission, but those are my suggestions to the pups.”
“Hey, more power to you!” Sonic smiled. “This is your home territory, so if we get confused, we’re turning to you for directions.”
“All right! Mighty Pups are on a roll!” Ryder jumped off the Lookout and activated his jetpack as the others slid down the laser chute to their vehicles. In the case of the twins, their two motorcycles that could merge into one car and reverse was waiting for them as two separate motorcycles.
“Dude, sweet!” Sonic exclaimed at seeing the pups jump into action. “And it’s only going to get better!”
By the time Eggman was ready to launch his assault on Adventure Bay, thus confirming Mayor Goodway’s suspicions that he was going to attack, the town was on lockdown. “What? How can this be?” he groaned as he began sending out his robots, who were damaging everything that they could possibly damage, but so far, only people’s cars were getting crushed. “They’re not supposed to be hiding! They’re supposed to be out in the open! The point of this attack was to catch them off guard!”
“Not when we’re around, Eggman!” Sonic suddenly shouted as he zoomed into Eggman’s view.
“Blast you, Sonic!” Eggman groaned. Then he suddenly grinned a grin of evil and said, “Say, that’s not a bad idea!” He began firing missiles and projectiles intended to blow the hedgehog to kingdom come, but the hedgehog and his friends instead redirected them into the waters of Adventure Bay. The only missile that missed managed to knock the bell off City Hall and into Mayor Goodway’s tulip garden (again).
“Oh, no!” she sobbed. “My tulips! Oh, what a disaster! Oh, I can see you’re upset about it as well, Chickaletta!”
“BA-BUCK, BA-GERK!” Chickaletta clucked.
It was a typical Eggman assault, but it was a typical Sonic counterattack, and the difference was that no Chaos Emeralds were necessary this time. (The last time Eggman invaded Adventure Bay, Sonic became Super Sonic with the use of the 7 Chaos Emeralds, and anybody else who had a super form used it to help blow Eggman all the way to the edges of outer space.) Rubble and Knuckles used their super strength to battle the robots, while Rocky’s energy tools messed with Eggman’s Eggmobile, allowing Tuck to shrink to atom size and mess up the wiring.
Like a previous battle where Harold Humdinger used one, Eggman had a teleporter, and he was threatening to use it to teleport Rocky to null space, a place he once managed to throw Sonic into, and it was a place where nothing happened (literally). Before the recycling pup could experience it, however, Tails took out a PHASR-esque firearm of his own, and it shot out goo-like projectiles that made it impossible for the Eggmobile to move. The only thing that moved was the ejector seat that launched Eggman out (because Tuck jumped on it and pressed it).
All the pups were also able to use Ryder’s suggestions during the battle as well, because Ella grew to her giant size, making Eggman scream like he had never screamed before.
By the time Eggman landed on the ground with a tremendous “THUD!”, he found himself trapped under Chase’s energy net. “Curse you, Sonic! And curse you, you outrageous dogs!” he grunted as his Eggmobile exploded, but Zuma was ready with his water powers to put the fires out, and Marshall directed him on where to aim. “You’re all like something on my shoe that I can’t wipe off! The Eggman Empire shall expand upon all corners of the universe, and the penalty for disloyalty to it is death!”
“That’s low, even for you!” Espio sneered. “I say, ‘Death to the evil one!’”
“Though we prefer you live to see the consequences of your actions,” Ryder added, making the chameleon think twice about what he just said. “Adventure Bay is our home. It is not yours to terrorize. It is not yours to conquer.”
“You haven’t heard the last of this!” Eggman sneered.
“Neither have you,” Chase shot back. “You want to try again? We’ll be waiting! I mean if you ever come here to Adventure Bay, we’ll be waiting!”
Because Mayor Humdinger was in prison for life, and Adventure City had a new mayor, the first thing the local governments did was force him to turn all his technology and his family’s technology (especially Harold’s gadgets) over to Ryder. As a result, Eggman was held in a laser prison while the PAW Patrol worked together to construct a rocket similar to the one that would have put Mayor Humdinger on the moon, and when the time finally came to launch, it was done at night, and the launch base was a deserted island that was in danger of sinking to its doom. Prior to launch, Sonic and his friends helped the pups (led by Rocky) in cleaning up all the trash so that the island would be safe to use as a launch site.
Eggman wasn’t free from all the muck until he was entirely inside the rocket, and the door was locked electronically so that the mad scientist couldn’t escape. It seemed the entire town came to watch, because they all joined in the countdown. “5...4...3...2...1!” Then Skye announced, “Ignition!”, and Ryder pressed the button to initiate launch. As the rocket blasted off into base, Chase announced, “We have liftoff!”
Marshall looked skywards and called out, “Bye, bye, bad guy! Better luck next time!”
“Dr. Eggman, please stop being bad!” Cream pleaded to herself, and her pet Chao, Cheese, echoed with a simple sounding “Chao, chao!”
“I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!” Eggman screamed as soon as the rocket blasted off.
At Captain Turbot’s suggestion, special effects were added to the launch, with everybody’s safety in mind, of course. Nobody was hurt since everything went as planned. But once the rocket was out of sight, fireworks began to explode, giving everybody the feeling it was the Fourth of July all over again, and balloons were released as well. The fireworks were the kind that launched confetti upon explosion, and the confetti that fell down came in all different colors.
“Nothing like a righteous fireworks display, huh?” Sonic commented.
“Especially when it means Eggman is gone!” Amy added. She turned to the townspeople and said, “But don’t think he’s not coming back. He never stops trying to conquer the world. But he’s not conquering the world. You can be assured of that.”
Once the rocket was out of sight, Mayor Goodway apologized to those she felt she hurt because she panicked so much, but according to Farmer Yumi, “There’s no apology needed, Mayor; you were just looking out for our safety, as one should do.”
“BA-BUCK, BA-GERK!” Chickaletta clucked.
“Even Chickaletta thinks so,” Zuma put in.
“Oh, thank heavens,” Goodway replied, letting out a sigh of relief. “I feel better about the whole thing. And thanks again to you, the Mighty Pups and Ryder, and to you, Sonic, for stopping that crazy madman!”
“You’re welcome!” Ryder replied. In a spin on tradition, he let Sonic say his catchphrase, although with slight variation, and Shadow joined in the declaration: “Whenever the Doctor threatens your seaside community...just dash for help!” The group chuckled at the comment, and they confirmed that they understood Eggman was a genius, and so he could easily use the rocket to come back to Earth.
The rocket carrying Eggman didn’t stop until it intervened with asteroids in the asteroid belt, and subsequently crash-landed on one of Jupiter’s moons. With no Eggmobile, however, Eggman was stuck, and so he just moaned and groaned at his defeat. He subsequently vowed never to use Foggy Bottom as a base again, and felt it was better to just stick to what he was used to; that was one act he actually got right.
“Well, at least I’m away from that wretched hedgehog!” he moaned. “I will be back! But now, I need to just rest. I’m really tired.” He did so after he freed himself from the muck, and he took more time that he usually did in order to gather his thoughts so he could get back to his regular state of mentality. He really needed the rest. He would eventually find a way back to Earth, but for the moment, he just wanted to recover from the defeat.
The next day, Ryder and the pups helped clean up the streets from the mess the confetti left behind, and that night, with Sonic and his friends watching, Wild Cat did more amazing stunts, this time ending with the triple alley-oop loop. (He went ahead and performed as an anthro since he found it was easier to do it that way, and he had better control over his motorcycle as an anthro.)
Sonic and his friends then grabbed their instruments and rocked out for the people, and even Chickaletta was getting into the music, letting out clucks along the way.
