For one, who's to stop an intruder from just ripping that wooden grate right out of the ground, or using dig, dropping a blast seed down their, doing what Lucky just did, etc.?

Second...how does identifying footprints tell them anything about whether someone represents a security risk? All it does is identify what species is at the gate, nothing else. And why the feet? Wouldn't the face be a better I.D.?

This is why I've always argued the guild should replace that thing with an old-timey submarine scope. I know the OMD world is pretty low-tech, but I'm sure they're sophisticated enough to build a swiveling pipe with two mirrors in it. I made one out of cardboard in elementary school!
