Because you did not take the Zora Sapphire. For the Zoras, the Zora Sapphire is like how a wedding ring is for us, except you only need one. (As there is ONLY ONE!) except I believe it's restricted to royal family Zoras to give. Also, this is exactly what I think Link is thinking when Ruto tries to propose love to him. He doesn't want any of that. Even as an adult he doesn't want it. Then again, he was an adult with the mind of a child who just had to be the one needed to save Hyrule, as the castle guards are pretty much not helpful in every Zelda game that they are on the good side. Except in Hyrule Warriors, where they can take doing the fighting for you while you need to fight elsewhere in the mission. They eventually go down if you take too long though. Only exceptions to this exception is NPC castle guards that you need them for doing something else for you and you need to protect them till they get get to the specified location, and the other one is the turncoat guards you fight later in the game. I mean, really, in Twilight Princess, the guards just stand there as the enemy is there, and one ends up getting caught in choking, forcing Zelda to surrender to Zant so nobody dies from his attacks.
