[$] Heat Pumps, and The Refrigeration Cycle - By Finalcor...
Wattz; being an enterprising but rather 'unconventional' inventor is more than happy to find strange solutions to problems that have already been solved. Said solutions are often very hands-on; and there is a statistically significant chance that suits will be involved in some capacity.
And this occasion is no different. After creating an air conditioner evaporator suit to beat the summer heat; Wattz was inspired to expand further upon the concept. Air conditioning units are heat pumps. They don't create heat or coldness; they just move those things around. What if someone wants to be cold whilst someone else wants to be hot at the same time!?
Enter Wattz's Mk. II Personal Heat Pump setup! Instead of just one suit; now there are two of them! One plays the role of the evaporator and keeps the wearer nice and cool; whilst the other plays the role of the condenser and keeps the wearer nice and toasty. Due to how the refrigeration cycle works; the evaporator suit is filled with cool gases at a (relatively) low pressure (although Wattz has tuned it to still be enough to leave the suit as puffy as they like it). The condenser suit on the other hand is filled with warm liquid; at a significantly higher pressure.
As we can see in the attached illustration; Wattz is able to move about freely and is only really limited by the length of the hoses connecting the evaporator suit to the compressor unit. With longer hoses; one can easily go round the home in cool comfort even on the hottest days!
His totally voluntary assistant Harry on the other hand has to fight against the considerable pressure inside the condenser suit just to move out of its natural pose. The weight of the liquid itself further adds to the difficulty of moving around. Furthermore; the condenser suit needs to be constructed out of much thicker materials that further limits mobility. These design considerations also saw simple mittens being used instead of digited gloves - in addition to their naturally low dexterity; the pressure of the suit makes it impossible to bend the mittens enough to grab items, operate buttons, or any other kind of controls aside from levers.
As a show of thanks for helping to demonstrate this new invention; Wattz was kind enough to let Harry keep the condenser suit for himself. The connector valves ensure that even after disconnecting Harry from the compressor unit, no liquid at all leaked out! it'll all stay safely contained inside until Harry can get himself his very own unit once Wattz gets around to trying to secure a manufacturing contract...
