Lore: Garo wasn't always like this. He was once a happy child with a loving mother and upstanding proud father who did the best he could to show his son the best dad he is, Garo grew up with an avid admiration for his parents and wishing to follow in his fathers footsteps as a proud brave warrior of his people. From when he was but a youngster practicing with a branch on a sack dummy he strived to be just like his father and as he grew up joined him in the ranks of the militaristic fighting power of the previous King of their people. Having been on various skirmishes with him and proving his strength in battle. Although as time passed the fighting had waned and his lord became tyranical and lazy. The village falling under a bit of harsher rule with various unfair laws set inplace by their old chief and many citizens including his own father voicing their displeasure to their esteemed ruler, Garo remembers hearing often in the halls of king's palace whenever he was on his guard duty- the king arguing with his father who held a considerable role in his army being a commanding officer himself about things not being the way they should be and how he had changed for the worst and that they must be more vigilant and alert of their enemies they had currently been warring with and potential human interference, Garo began to think if there was perhaps something bigger going on in the background that he didn't know about. Then one fateful day when they were attacked by forces unknown to Garo leaving his home in chaos and destruction as their unprepared army was overwhelmed and taken out many of his allies and people he knew growing up. Upon being struck in the head and knocked out by an assailant he wasn't aware of he woke up hours later to see their forces weakened and falling to their injuries, buildings set ablaze, corpses littering the ground, and houses looted, as he came to his senses he would rush to his home hoping to find his mother hiding but alas she was nowhere to be found. The only thing there being evidence of a struggle. She was taken. The only thing left he could think about was his father looking desperately for him everywhere only to finally find him within the king's private quarters slain, facedown in a pool of his own blood. Garo would soon discover the horrid agony of loss as he mourned his father and lost mother holding onto his corpse hoping that this was all a terrible dream, only to have a scaly hand rest on his shoulder, he would look up to see their ruler with a look of what seemed to be sadness but Garo could feel that it wasn't too genuine. He would explain that while he and his father were discussing warplans they would become ambushed by one of their many rival clans and had no time to prepare the forces for an invasion on their home, having Garo's father sacrifice himself to protect his king. But Garo wasn't a fool, he wasn't blind. He knew something else was afoot. As time passed and his village slowly began to rebuild the young man would take clues and investigate. Keeping an eye on his King for he had felt that what he said was nothing but lies. One day while the King was hosting one of his various dinner parties he would intrude into his quarters hoping to find an answer for what could have happened that day. Upon finding a lockbox and smashing the box he would discover his private journal with pages upon pages of deceit and treachery. It would seem their beloved ruler had gotten mad with greed and having an unsatisfied lust for power he had planned to stage an attack on his own people in exchange for a flurry of wealth proposed by a group of human slavers from a distant land, Garo seethed with anger as he read the king's thoughts and wicked plans were to sell off many innocent civilians in exchange for gold to fill his greedy soul and to also help this siege kill off those he became paranoid of dethroning him from his place. This including Garo's father. Enraged Garo took his journal and would begin to plan an assassination on the cowardly king. Rather than fight and protect his people he would rather kill off any one disagreeing with his terms and sell off people to live a miserable existence, to the point of selling his mother off to a lifetime of slavery and abuse and plan the murder of the man he respected most in his life this had to be paid in blood, his blood. Garo realized later on that he was no coward, he was a warrior and rather than poison his cup of ale would rather confront him on his throne with the journal of deception and challenge the aging tyrant to a trial by combat, only the King wasn't expecting the son of his right hand man to come back looking for revenge. After a long grueling duel in his throne room eventually Garo overpowered the older fighter and defeated him avenging his family with a clean slice to the betrayer's neck decapitating him. While the king had scoffed at his order to duel he noted to his guards to standdown as he would kill Garo himself, how little did he know. Now that he had killed his once-ruler Garo would take the helm himself exposing the truth of what their old village chief was and promising a more brighter future where they would rebuild themselves and become the greatest conquering tribe of their kind. It was tough at first and Garo had to defend his own place just like the last as others would challenge him to the helm but alas he held and was able to finally be the strong capable fighter his father was, he lives on in his name to honor him and avenge his mother long gone. After a while of searching for those responsible he finally found the culprits and planned a great attack on the people who conspired with his old king to betray his people, and not a single man survived. Garo would live on to fight many more battles and take on new foes in order to make his parents proud and make sure they never become forgotten in his memories. Now in his current age he rules his people although he became a brutal man himself through all the fighting and pain he experienced himself he kept his promise to be a better king to his people and so far has created a better society for his kind. He only wishes his mother and father were there to see how he made his world a slightly better place. Garo may not be the nicest person out there or sometimes no better than their old king but he makes sure that he will lead his people to glory one step at a time. They will be remembered.
