White Sun Communications field primer series. topic : colonial fabricator rally
Touborii colonists participating and spectating a local rally event.
Spectating on the road as a high performance car barrels down the unpaved loose gravel roads is neither wise nor safe with a very high risk of personal injury and is heavily discouraged. this however will not stop some people as the act of taking a picture of the front of a car as close as you can without getting hit is also seen as a point of accomplishment for spectators. at the very least waivers should be signed
after the establishment of a colony and security such colonies are considered sufficient, several recreational activities and large scale sports begin to proliferate. the most common of these however are the motorsport of rallying. as most colonies tend to have Field Fabricators and design archives required for jumpstarting the development of new colonial worlds. these archives contain centuries old designs of proven technology. this can be used to build cars of nearly ancient designs from a time before spaceflight with internal combustion engines and overall limited use of electronics compared to modern manufacture designs. however these old fabricator designs remain popular despite being primitive, the appeal of such machines could be due to the simplicity of such machines. internal combustion engines, naturally aspirated, turbo or supercharged or both , manual transmission and lack of driver aids put the effort almost entirely on the driver and co-driver, justly rewarding those of raw driving talent, skill and bravery. as well as ensuring these vehicles remain inexpensive, making fabricator rallying the most attractive for colonists and new blood of both clubman and professional paths.
as with the nature of rally, there is no need for a well maintained race track to host several professional teams at once, making the sport also inexpensive for finding track venues. also important for colonies that may not yet have the resources to spare the luxuries of a proper race circuit.
Vehicle seen: Fabricator Kit Vehicle- Argent 40 Mk2. a centuries old design within Fabricator design archives. approved for the Hycon Interplanetary rally regulations for competition use. most recognized for it's characteristically square shape with a long hood. Field Fabricators generally work faster when producing parts of angular shapes but they are capable of producing all sorts of part shapes that are needed.
commonly seen in the lower levels of fabricator rally leagues due it being a reliable and the most inexpensive design available. and often when a colony begins such sports, there would be a lack of experienced drivers to handle more powerful machine design in fabricator archives
this fabricator kit design, while it's original specifications is a naturally aspirated inline 4 cylinder front engine in a rwd drivetrain, it is rather underpowered vs other designs of its class, but it is known to be a design that is extremely easy to work with and durable. in it's original design, its long front hood has enough engine space that allows for easy engine modification to accommodate systems that would increase the overall engine size. professional drivers of the argent 40 mk2 always replace the engine with a more powerful but still regulation compliant engines for fabricator rally leagues. it is particularly successful in events of particularly harsh terrain and climate where durability is more the deciding factor of victory
Field Fabricators: machines that are essentially a highly advanced 3D printer capable of forging parts quickly to build important technology with. Fabricators do not assemble the whole thing at once, but rather build parts one by one to be assembled by hand or mechanically through robotics in accordance with the specifcations outlined in the Fabricator design archive. Ideally a fabricator is best suited for building parts to build more specialized machines for factories and industries needed for a colony but are fully capable of building individual products as well. Field Fabricators building items for recreation uses is typically only done when important technology and manufacturing machines are built first and the colony is then established enough to be in early stages for a established colony to one day become an prosperous inner world, hopefully.

drawn a while ago as practice for a scene, multiple characters and some use of colour. as well as the more cultural aspect common in the White Sun Galaxy
fun fact: the technology of a Fabricator Kit Vehicle such as these are around the level of an 80's car, unlike a Manufacturer's league that uses modern vehicles of the setting which are extremely advanced in comparison, these cars are kept primitive on purpose. despite all these centuries nobody learns the dangers of being on the track
