When I joined Civil Air Patrol, this warbird was stationed at our local airport. The local CAP units were flush with veterans from WW2 and Korea, some of which were hoping to get a joyride in the O-1. The Bird Dog only seated two however--pilot and observer. The aircraft was written off in the Winter of 1976 after a hard landing. The plane stalled after takeoff when the carburetor iced up and stalled. The wreck was sold for scrap and possibly restored to flying condition by a collector. No replacement aircraft was ever provided.
