23 years later...
Thurston Troodon let out a heavy and exhausted sigh as he glanced out the window of Engine # 12, His shift had just ended, all the questions that the Pteranodon children asked him earlier made him chuckle, "Sonny would've done a better job at answering their questions than I did," Thurston mumbled to himself. He chuckled and smiled as he looked at his watch.
“LAST STOP, TROODON TOWN! TROODON TOWN STATION!” Thurston yelled out. As soon as the train pulled up to the station, Thurston walked onto the platform “END OF THE LINE!” Thurston yelled out.
Passengers walked onto the platform, a young Pachycephalosaurus walked up to Thurston “Excuse me, but I’m supposed to be at Appalachia tonight! Are there any other trains running?” he asked. Thurston nodded “Yes sir, Engine #6 is going to Laramidia City Station in 20 minutes, you can then transfer onto the evening Appalachia express there,” Thurston explained.
The Pachycephalosaurus looked concerned “Is the express owned by Industries?” he asked.
Thurston shook his head “I’m sorry sir, it’s owned by the Mesozoic Railways Company, but as far as I know, it’s the only train that’ll get you to your stop before midnight,” he answered. The gentleman nodded as he thanked Thurston and walked away.
Thurston let out a heavy sigh, “Another exhausting day,” he said to himself. “Thurston!” a familiar voice yelled out. Thurston smiled as he saw Sonny running up to him.
“Sonny!” he yelled as they hugged tightly. Thurston placed a kiss on Sonny’s cheek “How was work?” Thurston asked. Sonny smiled “It was okay,” he replied.
Sonny and Thurston let each other go “How was work for you?” Sonny asked. Thurston shrugged “Well, it wasn’t the greatest, I wished you were with me today, I’m not the best at teaching,” Thurston said.
Sonny laughed “The Pteranodon kids? I must admire their passion for knowledge,” Sonny said. Thurston chuckled “You’re significantly better at teaching than I am, that’s for certain,” he said. Thurston stretched his arms “Well, time to clean up the train,” Thurston said. “I’ll help!” Sonny said.
Thurston turned to Sonny “Oh, no, no I wouldn’t feel right making you help,” Thurston said. Sonny smirked “You do remember that you were supposed to meet father today, right?” Sonny asked. Thurston blushed a bit “Dang! I’m sorry, I forgot,” Thurston said. Sonny laughed “It’s okay, besides, I want to help,” Sonny said.
Thurston frowned as he saw some shooting stars, “Next month would be the 23rd anniversary,” Thurston muttered. Sonny glanced towards Thurston, he nodded “Yeah, dad always end up being gloomy around this time of year, we all do,” Sonny said solemnly. Thurston placed his hand on Sonny’s shoulder “I’m so sorry about your mom, I know you were very close to her,” Thurston said.
Sonny smiled “Yeah, we all were,” he said. Sonny curled up “It sucks that it happened, even though I don’t want to admit it, I miss her,” he said, with a shaking voice. Thurston hugged Sonny “I’m sorry that I brought it up,” Thurston whispered. Sonny grabbed onto Thurston’s arm “Outside of dad, you’re the only person I can talk to about it,” Sonny sobbed.
Thurston nodded as he agreed with Sonny. After a few minutes, Sonny wiped his eyes and finished helping with the cleaning. Thurston smiled as he saw Sonny feeling better. He walked up to Sonny and hugged him again and kissed his cheek “We’re all done, but let’s not keep your father waiting,” Thurston said. Sonny nodded as he held Thurston’s hand and led him home.
