When pulling, use your entire arm, not just your hand. Because it is your entire arm that grabs the water.
Do not reach the length of your arm. Reach to the other end of the pool, or the ocean.
Keep your head down so you do not swim uphill. Swim downhill and kick perfectly back and pull directly backward, there is no benefit from kicking or pulling any direction that doesn't take you forward.
Accelerate your arm always. The water that moves the same speed around your hand is as good as not propelling you at all.
Roll through with your entire body; use your back to drive you forward. You are not swimming, you are anchoring your entire self from fingers to shoulder deep in the water, and slinging yourself forward.
See your body moving in perfection, flawlessly, reaching infintely far and pulling infinitely fast and strong, that is way to be faster.
Sneak concept art from a part of my life I had carelessly set aside and didn't realize I missed so fondly. This is... not how it looks in my head but it partly is. It helps to be a Trekker, because warp fields and theoretical warp geometry are very similar to visualizing perfect swim technique and mental visualization that prepares you for a perfect time. The truth is both you really have infinite reach and you only reach as far as your body goes, but it is transcendent to feel infintely easy fast.

This is absolutely beautiful, I love the sense of motion and speed and flow that the lines convey, the colours, and the description you provide about how swimming provides this feeling. :)
And it's all real. :D (In your mind. Which translates to real improvement in training, in swimming, and if you're innovative and able to link seemingly unrelated things, in other areas of life you apply it to!) Thank you Doran, when I swim this is partially what I see in my head and what you can see from an above view, and as someone reaches their displacement limits in water. =3 IT'S AWESOME and curious!
