Ravaged by past encounters, this collar"s marred, purple exterior sports textured rivets and deep claw marks while the interior is lined by a soft, rolled leather liner. Created for Pudgycatt, this piece was a good bit of fun, getting to go overboard with the claw markings! Making the markings deep enough to transfer between the two layers was a small challenge, and so glad that they lined up as well as they ended up.

Oooh, I adore those claw marks! Are there steps you need to take to avoid splitting or tearing the leather? Are there additional care concerns/maintenance steps to ensure it doesn't rip with use?
Also, what's the little design on the rivets? Is doesn't look like random swiggles, but I can't quite make it out.
In any case, awesome job as always!

Normally, you wouldn't want any kind of tears or cutouts on parts that are under stress and strain as they would become weak points on a piece. The collars I make though have all tension and stress diverted towards the rivets instead, allowing the top straps to become more decorative. That said, while I did carve at the leather to create such markings, they aren't very deep as to cause any issue. The rivets are a crackle-textured variety of antique nickel rivets that Tandy used to sell. Unfortunately, they discontinued the style a year after putting it on the shelves so unless you're buying secondhand, they're unavailable. I was lucky enough to meet a fellow leatherworker who had a good handful of packs that he was willing to sell :p
