Champion vs Champion (Part one)
The crowd's cheers could still be heard even from the waiting room..Max and Kiya really stirred the pot with their first match, gave them something to look forward to. Kevin was sitting in one corner of the room, doodling in a sketchpad he'd always brought with him. Something about that battle had inspired him too, but in a more artistic sense than actually honing his battle instincts.
He would have missed his call, if not for a sudden beeping on his belt. He looked to it, realizing that the source of the beeping was his own Digivice...Designed like the D3's from Adventure 02, except they had a much higher capacity for storage, and features the original concept design did not have. For one...
A bright flash enveloped his part of the waiting room, coming from within it, a small red winged digimon with a single aquillamon feather adorned on the back of it's head, with a belt strapped around it's forehead to keep it steady came from within the strange device. Flapping it's black claw tipped wings, the creature landed in front of the boy, giving a few tugs to his leg.
“Oh Kevin? Kevin.” The small avian creature gave another forceful tug, until finally, his partner looked down at him. Finally...that boy's got his heads out of the clouds. “Whew...I didn't think I'd ever get you out of it. Haven't you realized that your match us up next?”
“What are you talking about Hawkmon? I'm plenty ready for my match...I-”
Kevin had been cut off when he heard a three note chime from the intercom followed by a females voice playing through the building loudspeakers. “Match 2 of the Silver Conference Finals is about to begin, will Kevin Milos and Jesse Shade make your way to the field.” This announcement was ended by another three note chime before the waiting hall had gotten quiet again.
“I guess I WAS out of it...” Kevin set his sketchbook into his backpack, and let out a breath. “Alright Hawkmon you're right, my minds up there in the clouds.”
The beak of his partner curved up some along it's base, finding amusement in his tamer's words. “We'll glide back down to land together. But let's glide back down to the match first.”
Max finally stepped back into the waiting hall, looking exhausted, but happy with himself for his current standings in the competition...He was just getting ready to sit down on one of the benches set out for the competitors, when he felt a pair of hands grab at his shoulders from behind, shaking him a few times.
“Maaaax! Max Max Max!” It was a voice he was all too familiar with...same with the energy...Flare was shaking him, furthing his fatigue yet at the same time it invigorated him with more strength. “That was an amazing battle! That heat...that passion!”
He squeezed Max's shoulders before suddenly coming to the realization... “Oh right...err...I wanted to ask...why did your hair get longer...?”
“Uhh...this...?” Max sweat dropped, wondering how he could possibly explain the concept to his friend without weirding him out to much. “you see...uh...I met this fox guy...his name is Konjou and he's a unique Renamon...in any case...I've kind of taken him on to be my master because...frankly I still have a lot of shaping up to do...”
He answered truthfully first beginning with his encounter with Jaeger yesterday.. Max knew he still had a lot to learn about the light energy inside of him...and while Konjou wasn't a wielder of the light himself...he proved to be a valuable mentor for the trainer. “Anyway uh...if you really want to know...he's down at the park training Hack...mon...?”
Before Max could even complete his sentence, Flare was already out the building. He noted how Charmeleon stayed behind just briefly to apologize for his trainer's behavior, but Max didn't mind so much. He waved to Charmeleon and wished them well.
On the other side of the waiting room, Jesse was stretching his legs out one at a time. When he heard his name on the loudspeaker, he let out a breath of his own. He quickly made sure the red straps that crossed over the abdomen of his sweatshirt was tight and guarded, as well as adjusting his elbow and wrist straps. He was going into this match all in, and the focused look in his narrowed green eyes told that he was only looking at victory.
“Heh heh...don't fight too hard.” There was a faint voice that came directly from the human's shadow, though he'd been standing too far away for anyone to hear it other than himself. He paid the voice no mind, instead beginning to walk out through one of the two exits to the waiting room that would leak him directly into the ring.
“I'm not losing this fight. Not until I've battled HIM again.” Jesse muttered to himself down the private hall way. He could already hear the roaring cheers of the crowd, waiting with excitement for what was about to transpire in this next battle.
Entering the main stage, the outside light had nearly blinded the young trainer, who's hand was instinctively held over his eyes like a visor of sorts. The first thing he noticed wasn't the crowd, or even the large monitor in the background that would display their matches results in real time...It was Grapple, his Nidoking sitting on a bench on his side of the ring. The large Pokemon took up the entirety of the bench, and judging by the arms being crossed, he'd been waiting awhile.
“Sorry, Grapple. I took a little bit too long to prepare.”
This got a snort out of the Nidoking. He'd turn to look at his trainer, sizing up his readiness for battle before climbing out of his seat. “I do not mind waiting. I assume this means that I'm to sit out of this one?”
“Only for awhile...Feel free to sit on the bench until I call your name. I want to see what Kevin has up his sleeve this time.” Jesse gestured to the seat, urging for Grapple to take a load off for awhile and rest.
Almost just as Grapple settled back on the bench, Keven was stepping out into the open arena himself, a small anthropomorphic bird stepping right along side him. Judging by their closeness, Jesse could only assume that was Kevin's digimon partner.
Waiting for the little guy to hop up onto their side bench, Kevin stepped into his designated spot on the field, waiting for Jesse to follow suit.
“THIS MATCH WILL BE A 6 ON 6 BATTLE BETWEEN JESSE FROM JOHTO...AND KEVIN FROM HOENN!” The announcer's voice boomed thorughout the stage, getting the crowd excited, even as the ref stood in the center of the field just for a moment. There was no words from him until he lifted his hand from the center of the field, holding it skyward as he stepped out. “BEGIN!”
From Kevin's end, he tossed a ball into the air, letting the light forming from within take shape into a Swellow gliding just above the stage that it was set to battle on.
Looking to the winged pokemon that had been called in for Kevin's first choice, Jesse grabbed one of the balls that were fastened onto the red straps across his chest. With one fluid motion, he tossed the ball towards the ground, rather than the air as Kevin had done. “Prepare for battle, Absol!”
Materializing right into the ring, a white furred quadropedal pokemon with a blade like apendage coming from the right side of it's head stared forward, it's red eyes glancing upward to the Swellow that was hovering above it, growling up at it's feathered foe.
Rushing his way into the park, Flare was hot on the trail...He was curious who this fox person was that was so quick to gain Max's trust...! And someone who his friend could so easily call master. “This guy must be pretty special if he's willing to learn under someone other than his grandfather.”
“Flare...what exactly are you planning to do once you actually meet this guy...?” The voice, came from his Charmeleon partner, who had quickly caught up to him through way of a sprint.
“I'm just gonna test him...I wanna see what he can do is all...Maybe he can help me with my flame control...”
Charmeleon didn't like that word...test him...That sounded ominous coming from his trainer. But before he could ask his trainer what he exactly intended to do, he caught a brief sight of the fox, who was speaking only briefly to Hackmon, who emerged from a sphere that was laid out in the middle of the field...
Once the dragon hound had dashed away...Charmeleon was about to suggest going after the dragon until he spotted someone approaching the blue Renamon.
“It's...the wolf Max mentioned...Jaeger...!” Flare whispered, tilting his head to the side when he watched the wolf leaning against the side of a tree, talking in a casual body language like that...were they friends...
“Are they in cahoots with each other...I wonder if he staged Max's attack...!”
“You're jumping to conclusions.” Charmeleon reminded, grabbing Flare by the pants leg to keep him crouched down and out of their sight. “Just stay still...and let's listen in...”
Crawling into a nearby bush...Flare and Charmeleon pressed their ears as close to the exit as they could. It didn't help that both vulpine and canine were speaking in hushed tones...but they could make out at least SOME of what was being said.
“keep watch over them for me. They're going to be an important part of the events to come...” These words came out of Jaeger's lips, with the Canine giving a brief tap to the tree bark, just once...before walking away. “Anyway...those two need a master...one that can float and be anywhere...not one tied down to one location.”
Konjou's only response was to nod. The air around Jaeger was so mysterious...no scent...and no sound as he passed. It was as if any trace of him ceased to exist the moment he walked out of the park.
“Well...I think it's safe to at least sa-” Charmeleon looked to his side, only to realize that his trainer had left the bush...HIs minds eye visualizing an outline of Flare next to him, before glancing back to Konjou...The fox seemed relaxed...too relaxed even...
“Oh...please don't tell me...” Charmeleon looked up, to the tree that Konjou was leaning underneath, to see Flare, crouched on a branch up above. “Please don't...!”
“Surprise attack!!” Flare had dove down, attempting to grab the fox but found his vision quickly dominated by that of the grassy floor below and started flaling in the air at his downfall.
It didn't come though...he felt a long tail wrapped around his legs, just barely keeping him from hitting his head on the floor. “May I ask...why you're attacking me...?”
Flare laughed nervously, bouncing some with the momentum of his fall, but grateful that he hadn't become a pancake. “Uh...You see...it's a loooong story...” He noted the stern expression in Konjou's eyes and groaned, suddenly feeling like he was speaking to his father.
“Future sight!”
For just a moment, the Absol's eyes flashed bright, staring at the Swellow above itself with a great intensity before seeming to calm down.
“Wing attack!” Kevin shouted, waiting only a second for his Swellow to begin diving towards the Absol, wings stretched outward as it planned to land a strike right into it. Surprisingly, the Absol did not dodge, instead seeming to take the hit right into it's horn, using it as a parrying tool to avoid the brunt of the damage.
“Psycho Cut Absol.” The Disaster Pokemon let out a strange bark like sound as it started swinging it's head around, the horn on it's side glowing as it did so before several white blades of energy started flying towards the Swellow.
This motion, with the white blades coming towards it, the Swellow had to keep on it's feet, or rather...it's wings, to avoid being struck by the attack. Of course, this was easier said then done with the swiftness that the Absol had been producing them. Swellow managed to remain in the air for a few seconds more before one blade of energy cut into it's left wing, forcing a shriek of pain to come out of the bird.
“Hang tight Swellow...You need to charge in with an Aerial Ace...!”
The Swellow ignored the pain welling in it's left wing, staring daggers at the Absol as it took to the sky as fast as it could go before dive bombing towards it. Even with the Absol taking action to avoid the hit however, he still took a direct attack along his back, sending the Absol rolling near the edge of the field.
Slowly getting up from it's resting spot, Absol pried itself loose, looking up at the Swellow intensely, as if it's stare itself would be enough for it to defeat the bird.
“If you're not going to attack then we will! Aerial Ace one more time!”
“Oh no...that's just not going to work again.” Jesse said this calmly, putting his hands in his pocket. “You better prepare your next pokemon.”
Just as he'd said that, the Absol moved swiftly from the field, almost as if vanishing from existance. The Swellow itself, looking around for it's target...trying to lock it down before it could begin it's attack.
A shadow fell over the avian, who suddenly looked upwards to see the Absol, staring with a cold expression with it's red eyes. Suddenly, swinging it's great horn around again, it inflicted several Psycho cuts into the Swellow's abdomen.
With it's eyes flashing once, the Absol decided to end it's barrage with one final slashing light, it's force driving the Swellow into the ground where it fainted.
“Swellow is unable to battle!”
Kevin quickly set his first pokemon back into it's ball, looking somewhat stunned by this quick disadvantage he'd been put into.
“Future Sight...It's supposed to create a delayed attack a short time after it's released. But there was no delay...What did you do...?” Kevin wondered, looking at the Absol standing in the middle of the ring, licking one of it's paws so casually even as it's eyes were set on him.
Jesse didn't answer, he only tightened the braces on his arms as he kept his gaze on Kevin. “You're an intelligent trainer Kevin. Figure it out...Show me why you were able to defeat Steven.”
From inside of the waiting hall, Max was sitting on a bench, watching the fight on the monitor hanging on the wall with all his attention on the Absol. “He took advantage of it's premonitions...”
There was a brief moment of silence in the hall, as a caped figure, quadrupedal in nature suddenly snuck in behind Max. Suddenly, the jagged lips of Hackmon suddenly found themselves encompassing Max's head, a bit of drool dripping down his head as the dragon hound proceeded in his attempt to devour his tamer.
This was short lived though...As Max, with some effort, managed to pry Hackmon's jaws off his head, although now he was covered in the dragon's warm drool... “You can have me tonight...not in the middle of these matches though...”
“Awwww...drat!” Hackmon snapped his claws in a dissapointed fashion. He'd been looking forward to eating his tamer...It'd felt like half a year since he'd done so...and wanted his tamer in his belly. But...if he waited six months...he could wait one more day... “Anyway...you said something about...Premo...something...?”
The first thing Max did, once his head had been free was to look to Hackmon and see how he may have changed. Looking him over...Max could see that the cape that his friend was known to wear had been torn in many spots...in fact...he looked as though he may just need a brand new one. “Premonition...it's like...predicting the future...”
“Absol is the disaster pokemon...It's said that they live deep in the mountains, and only show themselves to humans or anthros...when there is going to be a disaster. It's garnered...a pretty negative reputation because of this...” Max put one hand on his knee, while another reached out to grab the Pokedex sitting in his pocket. “Some people have even theorized that the reason it's capable of predicting these events is because it's got a pretty strong sixth sense. I imagine, Jesse trained it in Future Sense so that it's sixth sense would be even greater.”
The implication was lost on Hackmon, not understanding what improving the Pokemon's intuition would have to do with this current battle. “So...it's not seeing into the actual future?”
“That I don't know...But I'd assume not.”
Sighing, Kevin couldn't bother to think about the hows and whys right now. Clutching his next ball, he tossed it into the air, revealing his next pokemon. “Zangoose!”
The Mongoose, Ferret hybrid looking Pokemon formed out of it's ball, with mostly white fur with a red zig zag pattern running in the middle of it's chest. It's right ear similarly having a red coloration and a red mark running up along it's eye. The Zangoose stared calmly, looking at it's foe even as the monitor above refreshed to show the battle's current stats
“A Zangoose...? Interesting. Alright Absol...Future Sight again!”
The Absol's eyes flashed again, it's legs spread in a defensive position even as the fur on it's body stood on end. It's eyes were trained on the Zangoose who looked unfazed by the intimidating glance of it's adversary.
“Fury Cutter. Don't give it time to see that vision!”
Zangoose barked once, sprinting towards the Absol on all fours, stopping only to lunge forward with it's claws stretched out. With it's left paw, it swiped at the sight seeing pokemon, only for Zangoose's claws to be intercepted by the blade like apendage on the side of Absol's face. Though parried, it's right paw came in with quick speed, swiping at the Absol cheek, knocking it onto it's side from the super effective strike.
The Absol coughed once, slowly crawling up to it's feet, looking mildly annoyed from the double strike.
“Shake it off Absol! Psycho Cut!”
“Graaawr!” The Absol growled out, swinging a few more blades of energy towards the Zangoose. It would run through the field, avoiding most if not all of the energy blades. As it got within striking range however, the Absol's head swung downward before striking up, catching it's opposition square in the jaw with it's last strike.
Zangoose rolled back, catching itself with it's hind paws and started rubbing under it's chin where it had been struck. The normal calm of the Zangoose was being overwritten by confusion. The way that the Absol had struck it seemed almost intentional...It wasn't just random coincidence...Almost as if it KNEW how he would choose to counter.
“Alright...we can't let it reach that premonition Zangoose. X-Scissor. Give it all you've got!”
Zangoose howled, it's claws glowing a bright white as he zig and zagged through the field. He wasn't going to give the Absol time to analyze his moves, instead opting to go in from behind. This would do it...In the back of the Mongoose like creature, he was lifting his claws outright, ready to dear the decisive blow. Then...The Absol's head swung back, one red eye staring eeriely at him.
With a sudden grace, the Absol got onto it's hind legs, extending his forepaws out and clenching it in a fist. With a quick turn, it's paw slammed right into Zangoose's belly, knocking him onto his back a few feet away.
“That...Future Sight is only supposed to kick in after two attacks have been dealt. We'd only hit you once...”
Max back in the waiting room put his hands together as if he were thinking, eyes narrowing. “I...I think I get it now...this is much more than simple intuition.”
Hackmon still didn't get it. He'd seen the Zangoose get hit square in the belly, as if the Absol knew where he was going to hit. In truth...it reminded him of how Konjou was easily able to read both Max and his own attacks. When he considered that similarity, a light bulb moment occurred to the dragon hound Digimon.
“You said he's not looking into the future...but he knew that X-Scissor was coming from the back. Even knew what to do to get his strike in before it made contact. Are you sure he's not Psychic?”
“Future Sight works differently with that Absol. I don't think he's looking into the future...but he's definitely predicting those attacks. He knew where to use his horn to cut the attack power of Swellow's Wing Attack...and the Fury cutter was parried too. Even if the second swing was a clear hit.” Max tapped his cheek, a smile forming on the corner of his mouth.
“Normally attacks like Future Sight don't stack their effects on top of each other...But in Absol's case here, it's actually boosting his awareness. It's an imperfect method, and unlike Konjou, he's taking a few hits while he waits for the effects to boost his reaction time.” Max tapped his fingers together, looking, excited. In his head, he was already trying to figure out countermeasures for such a troublesome ability. “Either way...I think that Absol will probably be out of the battle when Kevin calls out his third Pokemon.”
Kevin looked up at the large monitor to see Zangoose's icon having been darkened due to being unable to battle. He was starting to understand just a little bit of what was going on, as well as what Jesse was trying to do. “This is your true team I take it. The one you intended to use with Lance in the Silver Conference last time.”
“Who knows. A couple years passed since that time.” Jesse answered calmly, adjusting the straps on his arm while he waited. “I want to see the changes YOU'VE made to your team.”
Well...as a trainer, that was the correct response. It's not like Jesse can reveal his training methods to his opposition. At this rate though, he would be at a huge disadvantage. “Oh well...Four pokemon left, let's make them count.” Kevin thought to himself internally.
“If your Absol can see our attacks, then I'll throw an attack that can't be avoided. I'm calling you out now my friend! I choose you Glider!” Kevin threw his third ball into the air. What came out of it was a Salamence. A large, quadrupedal blue scaled dragon with a white underbelly and red guillotine shaped wings, and a long, powerful tail that twitched in the fresh air in the ring.
Glider's wings shot open not a second later, and let loose a loud, intimidating roar that surprised the Absol currently standing in the ring. With a smack of it's tail into the rugged, stone terrain of their battle field, it quickly soared into the sky, circling around the disaster pokemon whom it has already decided was it's prey.
Kevin readjusted the pen that was situated behind his ear, and shot his arm upward, index finger pointed up at the sky. “Smash entire battlefield with Draco Meteor!”
Glider's eyes shone for a moment, a sign of acknowledgment as it's wings started beating with great strength, a roar shaking the surrounding area and forcing many of the spectators to grab hold of their seats. Many of them wouldn't know what was happening, at least not until they looked up to a brilliant purplish glow in the sky.
Several comets were falling to the center of the stage, every one of them focused on the fighting stage so as to not harm any of the spectators or trainers. This of course...was not the case for Absol. The disaster pokemon, stared into the sky at the comets raining down and jumped slightly, whenever one hit a part of the ring. Each impact shook the stage.
Thinking quickly, the Absol barked it's retaliation, jumping over some of the comets flying towards him, knowing his blade would not be able to put a stop to them. However...his sprints were quickly in vain when he found many of the comets embedded into the ground aorund him, serving as a physical barrier that kept him from escaping. He looked up to the sky one last time, seeing a comet veiled in purple aura, much larger than the others and gulped.
Involuntarily, it took one step back, noticing the menacing glare from Glider who was as his name suggested...gliding behind the large rocky mass. With another defeaning roar, he slammed his tail right into the massive comet, breaking it into smaller shards that showered the trapped Absol.
The view was similar to that of fireworks for the spectators, who watched purple glowing shards falling upon the stage, almost as they were watching a Pokemon Contest, of which, this light show lasted about 30 seconds until the last remnants of stone pelted the ground below.
Underneath the debris, Absol's head could be seen, it's tongue sticking out of it's mouth with a goofy expression on it's face...clearly unable to battle.
“A-Absol is unable to battle! That was a stunning display of raw power! For sixty seconds...our League stadium was shrouded in nightfall! Such strength...Who's going to win this wacky competition?!” Bellowed the announcer, his voice filled with understandable bewilderment.
“Return and Recover.” Jesse re-called Absol. After a good battle, there was now a grey icon by his name to indicate Absol's loss. There were still 4 balls still on Jesse's chest straps...with his last pokemon in his team sitting on the bench. He could reciprocate Kevin's action...who'd already called his ace pokemon into the match...But He still wanted to see what made Kevin a Hoenn champion.
“I guess I'll use this one. Sorry Kevin but I'm not going to lose.” Jesse grabbed at the ball second from the bottom on his chest strap and tossed it into the air. “Alright Edge! Prepare for battle!” As he finished his call out, a Kabutops sprang into the middle of the now quite rocky terrain. It's scythe like hands held up in a cross like pattern, eyes gleaming at the hovering Salamence.
After the screen refreshed to show the two new combatants, Kevin pulled a bit of a surprise and re-called Glider back into it's ball. Edge, who remained out in the middle of the ring, looked very unamused, and even a little dissapointed that his prey had retreated. It would put an accusatory claw towards Kevin. “Kabu Kabu...Tops!”
“I have no idea what you're saying dude...” Kevin admitted blankly, but he had the gist of it. Jesse's Kabutops wanted to battle his Salamence, but he needed to save Glider for the biggest threat in Jesse's arsenal...
Don't you worry...I have just the play mate for you though. Now I can start to get back into the game.” Kevin set Glider's ball onto his belt and grabbed another. “It's Thorn's turn to give me a win!”
Tossing the ball into the rocky field, Kevin revealed to the crowd his 4th pokemon in his rotation to be a Sceptile. A rather tall one at that. The usual height for the species was 5'7, but this one was just a foot above that. It was fairly nimble too, judging by how it would jump from stone to stone without ever touching the ground beneath it.
“Leaf Blade, Thorn!”
Hearing the sudden orders from it's trainer, Thorn sprang forward, the leaves on the Sceptile's arms glowing a bright green and growing as if by will. It leapt from stone to stone, trying to trip up the enemy Kabutops was similarly, hopping from stone to stone.
In hindsight, a rocky surface like this was not suited for long term battles. Jesse and Kevin knew that, but what was done had been done. “Get ready for it!”
Jesse's own orders rang in the Kabutop's ears. Or what might count as ears given it's anatomy. Not a moment sooner did the Sceptile finally make it's move. Springing towards Edge with it's right elbow extended, the Kabutops had less than a second to properly react by lifting it's left scythe arm to block the first attack.
The second one was similarly parried by the right claw. The clear focus between the two of them quite obvious as their eyes met in their locked sword play...Or what counted as sword play for the pokemon themselves. Between the two of them, their strikes and parrying made them look as if they were dancing on the stage, Nimble footwork between the two of them, and their blades crossing against one another...despite one being just a hardened leaf, there was still the sound of steel grinding against steel.
After one last swipe between the two of them, they finally broke it off, standing on opposite pillars. Both of them staring intently at one another, just waiting for the other to slip up.
Then there was a small crumbling sound, as a piece of rock chipped off the pillar that Thorn had been standing on. It'd been enough of a sign for the Kabutops to spring into action, dissapearing in a blur. Thorn, looking reasonably shocked, started looking from left to right for his foe, before turning to Jesse as he heard the words that left him chilled. “Ariel Ace!”
Upon hearing that, Thorn turned his view skyward. He was momentarily blinded by the flashing sun, but came to realize that Edge was falling or rather...diving within it's sight...making it hard to look at him without going blind in the process.
As a last ditch effort, the Sceptile decided to chance it...Internally, it was counting to three...and once it had finished it's count down, started sprinting a few pillars down, and not a moment too soon. Behind him, he could hear the sound of stone crumbling, as Edge's scythes tore into the pillar he'd been on, crushing the surface and leaving a few pebbles just beneath his feet!
There was a brief silence from the crowd, watching the Kabutops returning to it's feet in a relatively calm fashion. But what they'd been equally surprised about, was Thorn's action...
“Edge, the Kabutops absolutely crushed one of the comets that had been summoned by Salamence earlier with a stunning display of raw power! But what's equally impressive, is that Thorn the Sceptile managed to completely avoid an unavoidable attack! How did HE do it!”
The roar of the crowd erupted, shortly after the announcer's speech had ended. To be honest, Jesse was wondering that too, but now he was piecing together how Kevin managed to earn a Championship win against Steven.
“Leaf Blade...one more time.”
Thorn didn't take the time to process the damage that'd been done to the stage, he just sprang back into action, especially now that Edge was on the low ground...It gave him an advantage he was very willing to make. With as much strength as he could pump his legs with...he shot himself towards the Kabutops. He hadn't given his opponent any time to make a full recovery, as he cut into Edge's hard shell, breaking through into the back.
There was a pained cry from the Kabutops when it's carapace was penetrated, after all this was from an element that did four times it's usual damage. But still...the Kabutops shook itself up, staring back at Thorn with panted breaths.
“Oh! It used Endure before the attack hit! That is one smart Kabutops! It just barely managed to avoid a total knock out!”
Still having the high ground, Thorn stared down at his worn down adversary. It's eyes showing little fatigue as it watched Edge slowly getting itself ready for it's next attack...and to the Sceptile, it might well be it's last.
“Mud Shot, Edge!”
“KABU...TOP!” Edge had flung a blob of mud into the Sceptile's body, it's expression intense as it glared into Thorn's own eyes.
A Mud shot? Certainly it had enough strength for another Ariel Ace, but it was flinging...mud...? It seemed like a waste. But then again... “I guess you figured another Ariel Ace wouldn't make sense...Alright Thorn! Give your foe a proper resolution. Dual Chop!”
The Sceptile's eyes gleamed for just a moment. It leapt into the opening on stage. Both paws were enveloped in a purple aura before smacking right into the Kabutop's chest with minimal force. His intention was only to knock out his opponent after all, not to do long term permanent damage, so when Edge collapsed, he proceeded to leap back up on one of the remaining pillars.
“Kabutops is unable to battle...! Both trainers now have four Pokemon remaining in this match!”
Taking a breath, Jesse quickly recalled Edge back into his ball...Inside...Jesse was becoming increasingly excited. Not just from the battle, but the experience he was getting in this battle. He'd stolen the lead, and now they were even. But he had no intention of losing.
“Talon! It's time to prepare for battle!” As the blue haired trainer tossed the ball, a steel Skarmory was brought into being, gliding around the stadium two full circles before hovering just above the pillars.
“And Jesse's third pokemon is a Skarmory he's named Talon! Which of these two trainers are going to take the advantage...!”
“I'm not going to give you any more leeway. I'm almost ready...” Jesse commented cryptically, his eyes glancing at the field's current terrain “Observe your opponent, Talon. Use Drill Peck...!”
The Skarmory let out a small battle cry as it started diving into the stone pillars. For a Flying type this was a notoriously bad move, as it offered very little mobility for escape...or maneuverability to pull off it's attacks, something that Thorn was completely aware of.
It had decided to retreat further along into the stones, using them to slow down the avian. Of course...what he hadn't expected however...was an odd drilling sound that seemed to buzz in the ring.
Zzzzzzrrrr Crrrrk!
It sounded like a pillar had broken apart...but...that didn't make sense...unless...
The color momentarily drained from Thorn's face, as he heard the drilling starting to get closer. Followed by some very audible cracking to his side. It was coming from the other side of the pillar. As he stared, he could see cracks forming on his end...and the sudden realization of his danger dawned on him...! He jumped towards another pillar, just in time to see the Skarmory, spinning around as if it were a large drill, with it's beak having no problems crushing through the comet pieces. And it was following him...!
As he leapt onto each pillar, the Skarmory would crack and crumble each stone, slowly breaking down the protective barrier that had previously served as the grass type's protection.
“Un-REAL! Jesse's pokemon show impressive feats of skill with each move...! Frankly I'm getting shivers trying to find out what it is that he'll do next...!”
Kevin was too...and not in a good way. He had to think of something...otherwise there wouldn't be much protection left for Thorn in the ring to protect him from what other attacks Jesse's pokemon might inflict.
“Hurry and use Dete-”
It was too late though, before he could finish his command, Jesse's Skarmory had already made contact with the Sceptile's abdomen, acting like a powerful tool that drilled into the grass type's stomach. Fortunately...it never broke skin...but the damage that Thorn undoubtedly took was real, as he collapsed after just one hit.
“That doesn't make sense...Thorn's faster than that...he was able to out run Ariel Ace, what-” He stopped mid sentence, recalling the moments just a short time ago when Edge had thrown the mud to his Sceptile...more specifically...his feet. He hadn't even considered it... Kevin put a hand to his face for a moment. Every move that Jesse was making was tailored towards his next move. He was always setting up for the next battle. Jesse'd even used his own attack to his advantage...But what was the goal now...
“Return to me, Thorn.” Kevin recalled his Sceptile in a flash of light. He had to figure this out and soon...what was Jesse's game...and how was he playing it...
“Manectric! It's your turn!”
Throwing the ball, he revealed a black furred Manectric, poised and ready for battle. A deep growl came from within it's throat even as it looked at the ring that it would be fighting in and the opposing Skarmory that was flying above it.
“I see it now...” Jesse closed his eyes, a sigh coming from him, even as he tightened his wrist straps. “I get your entire game plan now.”
“what...?”
He put his hands to his side, letting them rest as he stared down Kevin. “I know what type of pokemon you now have in your party...and I know your game plan...This Skarmory here will be the last one of my team that you'll knock out of battle.”
“Say what!?” Kevin shouted over the crowd, staring at Jesse and noting the passive look on Jesse's face. The trainer looked dead serious, eyes narrowed but his body language spoke of his confidence. “You really think you'll win with three pokemon still under your belt at the end of this?”
“I'm not trying to egg you on or upset you.” Jesse spoke quietly, adjusting his chest braces, and taking a breath. “But based on what I've gathered on your pokemon so far...I have a good understanding of your teams composition. Maybe it's a little concieted to declare that Skarmory will be the last pokemon you knock out...You could surprise me. But judging from what I've observed so far, I'd say my prediction will come true.”
Kevin didn't know how to process that...Being told it wasn't to upset him...and that Jesse'd been observing his team. After seeing four of his pokemon, there's no way that Jesse could have come up with some sort of idea of who his remaining team consisted of. There was a moment of silence, as the crowd waited for their fight to resume. “Alright then...” The artistic trainer readjusted his glasses, suddenly grinning as he found a sudden spark of inspiration surging inside of him. “I guess my job here now is to prove you wrong. I hope you're ready Jesse. Because I'm not going to let you win without a fight!”
“You heard it right here folks...! Jesse is making a bold declaration of victory! Judging by how masterfully he has trained his pokemon, it's no wonder he's so sure of himself...Let's keep this match rolling!”
The cheers of the crowd erupted into a wild uproar, everyone eager to see how the remainder of this battle would turn out.
(TO be continued)
-----------------------------------------
Champion vs Champion (Part one)

Whew...I Been over half a year since the last chapter huh...? Sorry about that. Been working hard on commissions and finally got this one done. Though I'd say my commissions are way more loved than my personal story telling but hey...I still enjoy it...even if not a whole lot of people do. This time we have the second round of the Silver Conference kicking off with former Johto League Champion: Jesse, going toe to toe with former Hoenn League Champ: Kevin. A pretty tough match, with champion quality action, they both show how trainers need to step up their game if they ever want to be good enough to challenge Lance.
Warning: Includes intentional attempted vore. you have been warned.

Goodness, such a fierce battle! I assume there is a rivalry between Kevin and Jesse?
You could say that. They were both in the final round in the last League competition they both took part in so they both want a shot at the title again. They both also want an opportunity to battle Max, whom did not get an opportunity to participate in the league previously since he was stuck in his Guilmon body at the time.
Ah okay, that sounds intriguing! And heheh..silly Hackmon, trying to snack on Max~
