"N-No more-"
Princess Sally's voice was low and monotone as she spoke via live video transmission to each of the Freedom Fighter fractions around the globe that were able to join in alongside any other Mobian who dared to defy Eggman’s authority and watch. The words escaping her lips almost seemed to lack all emotion as she stared downward, not even meeting the gaze of the stationary recording device. There was very little energy in her speech leaving her words quiet and soft.
Most of the audience watching the feed matched the Princess' malaise. They were hunched over, unsure of what to even do with their bodies. Some held their heads in their hands, others were staring off into space, looking through the video message rather than at it. The only constant was that they were all worried. They were all afraid. The mood felt as dark as the room that Sally's signal was hailing from.
"No more running... hiding... living in fear...
We have all scraped by under the shadow of the Eggman Empire for far too long.
He thinks he can do as he pleases, using us as he sees fit. Now the Doctor is undergoing his biggest offensive initiative to date...
He is leveling villages, crushing cities and only leaving fire in his wake... and he continues to push forward."
The audience began to sink further downward as her words washed over them. They knew she was speaking the truth, but they did not want to hear it. Many had already lived through it, more still did not.
Sally's head tilted upward slowly and her baby blue eyes sparkled against the small tears welling on the sides of her face.
"He has taken away our friends, our families and our lives…
He has left smoldering craters were our homes once stood…
He has poisoned our world, spreading his blight to every corner of this realm.
We have all lost so much, more than can be comprehended. For so long it has seemed like the doctor's reign would be infinite. That we are stuck in this abysmal cycle of despair.
But that has to stop..."
She used the thumb extruding from her clinched fist to wipe away her tears. The Mobian refocused her gaze forward, this time with determination and purpose.
"It's time we draw our line. Not in sand, but in bedrock. Eggman will NOT be allowed to continue his tirade."
Her voice was no longer meek. It had strength, as it was projected from her diaphragm instead of being stuck in her throat.
"He has an army... an armada... greater than any of our single forces. But HE is lacking. Eggman will never have our will... He does not have our burning desire, our hope, our rage! He does not have our FIGHT!"
The Princess' voice swelled on the last word, causing many viewing the broadcast to snap upward and redouble their attention to the message. They looked upon their leader, who was now engulfed in passion as she continued her speech.
"My friends, it is time we take back our freedom! For an entire generation Eggman believed that he could stop us by taking away our sun and casting us unto darkness. Trying to snuff out any signs of hope by drowning us in shade. We will show him that we don’t need the help of the stars. Today we will show him that we make our own light!
Eggman WILL NOT extinguish what burns in our hearts! He CAN NOT put out what is eternal!"
Freedom Fighters from all corners begun to feel the full impact of Sally's message. They clinched their fists and rose to their feet ready to hear what she would say next. Tails twitched and ears fluttered as all eyes gathered closer to the nearest monitor.
"The Freedom Fighters will show Eggman what it means to fight for a righteous cause."
She took one step closer to her recording camera, engulfing all screens with her presence.
"If we do this together, we will push him back. I need every one of you to lend us your strength. Whatever you can give."
For a moment she didn’t feel like a commander giving out orders, or even a royal addressing her people. She was a friend, being there for those that needed her.
"I know your scared. Trust me, I am too.
But what drives me forward... what scares me even more, is what the future brings if we allow this to happen."
Sally brought her hand to her mouth and closed her eyes, taking a moment to collect her thoughts. When her eyelashes parted, they revealed a gaze that could pierce steel.
"We are in this together my friends. I will carry your burdens just as I know you will wield mine!
I don’t care how many badniks he has! I don’t care how many of his ships are in the sky! Our freedom cannot be stripped from us! Our resurgence will not be denied!
I can't tell you that we will all make it to the other side of this, but I can promise we will all make it to a brighter future! One without HIS shade!"
Mobian fists began to pump alongside Sally's words. Their limbs almost acted on their own in response to such a powerful voice. Hands clapped together and most were unable to stand still, feeling the Princess’ raw energy entering their form. She had ignited a fire, one greater than any the good doctor had ever been able to create.
"Tomorrow we will stand in the sun once again but today... Today we END the Eggman Empire!
My Freedom Fighters! My Allies! My Friends!
FIGHT FOREVER!!!"
Screams erupted from every fighter fraction, repeating the words of their figure head. Mobians who had never dreamed of resisting Eggman before suddenly felt the calling to defy their oppressive tyrant. You could hear their chants the land over. Even nature reverberated the passion of the people as animals reared around in response to the sound. Lakes and streams rippled in perfect cadence. The very earth shook in seismic activity from the strength of their combined voice, all singing out as one.
It was almost as if the planet itself was ready to rise up against Eggman.
With the transmission ended Sally turned away from the camera taking in a deep breath before exhaling. She looked up to find her friends leaning against the wall staring back at her, beaming with pride. They each individually nodded or gestured their approval in some way. Though the cavalcade of comrades were heavily darkened by the limited lighting of the room, the radiance from their smiling faces shined brightly.
The friends then all peered in the direction of a cobalt hedgehog in the center of the group. The red sneaker adorned Mobian pushed off of the wall and stepped forward, with the large grin on his face increasing in size.
"So, what's next Sal?"
The Princess clinched her fists together. You could easily hear the straining fibers in her gloves stretching under the increased pressure. She looked directly into the emerald iris of the one standing before her.
"Next?
We Fight."
