It was supposed to be a simple job. The prodigal psionicist had naught but to uncover and neutralize whatever was causing the series of disappearances of an isolated village in the middle of nowhere, on a plane that didn't appear to be in any of the Magistrum's files.
Surely nothing bad could happen. Certainly nothing life changing.
Of course, we all know how that turned for. For it was this same job that would entwine Enigma's fate with that of an alien entity the likes of which neither he nor anyone on Crossroads had ever seen before.
The normal composed and controlled Enigma, caught off guard, forcibly bonded to a symbiote that would one day become his trusted Companion. (As seen in https://www.furaffinity.net/view/27928840/ and https://www.furaffinity.net/view/27928915/ )
I'd say the mind mage should have taken his own advice, but I suppose it all worked out in the end. Certainly surprised his apprentice when he came back home though.
As always, it's a treat to entrust LittleBadWolf with my characters, because they have such a skill and eye for detail.

Surprised his apprentice eh?
Guessing Enigma came back home as a hulking goober, probably eating cake in the middle of the night :P
(bonus points if you get the reference)

Oh, worse than that. He came back half transformed. It took all of his willpower to keep control and regain his original shape completely.
Took weeks of experimentation and testing to understand just *what* had happened.

So like he had some of his limbs bigger than others and had other symbiote traits happening? Neat~
er I mean, how horrifying~

It's definitely a lot less scary once you've gotten used to it.
What can I say? I got an irreplaceable Companion out of it.

I'm curious just how many times you almost lost control of him in front of students before you two got along perfectly :P
Fortunately, the class never had to see it, Edmund aside.

How long was it until companion became enigma's ally?
It was about a month or two. In my canon, symbiotes start to take on the traits of their host the longer they stay bonded. And while Enigma was in quarantine studying the effects Companion was having on his body, Companion was starting to "adapt" a new personality more befitting on a detective's assistant.
Enigma had sealed off Companion's "mind" with his magic in the meantime, but once he sensed the change he started to gently release his seal and coax it out.

What would have happened if enigma hasn't of sealed off companions mind?
It's difficult to say, because at the time what would become Companion was trying to wrest control. Seems like the previous host wasn't as... agreeable of a person.
