Before you read through this, there are some high quality youtube videos on the man himself, i highly recommend watching those for a better grasp of his achievements
Born to French-Canadian parents but moved back to Montreal. Then at the age of 19 he enlisted in the army in 1941.He was amongst the Canadian forces that landed on the beaches in the Normandy Invasion on June 6, 1944, in that day he captured an enemy half-track, days later he was injured by a phosphorus grenade while fighting a group SS soldiers, and he lost partial vision in his left eye; he refused to be evacuated back to England because he needed only his right eye to sight a rifle.
During the Rhineland Offensive corporal Major was again wounded when his vehicle hit a mine. He escaped the hospital and stayed with a family in Nijmegen whilst recovering from his wounds. Afterwards he rejoined his unit in the liberation of the Northern parts of the Netherlands. Leo Major was a stubborn man and on more than one occasion got demoted. His bravery however meant that he was always reinstated to his former rank.
One of his most legendary actions was the liberation of Zwolle. With his best friend Willy were sent on a scouting mission. They had to check out the German defence positions. Willy was killed which sent Leo on a rampage, he picked up his friends gun and grenade bag attacking any enemy soldiers he ran into capturing several groups and handing them over to the waiting Canadian forces outside the town. He went back for about 8 times. After more than 4 hours of fighting and capturing more groups of Germans, he finally met with the SS. He killed four in the shooting that followed. The Germans thought they were under attack by the Canadian army and decided to flee the town. In the morning of 14 April Zwolle was liberated…by one man
There are many more feats of badassery done by this man in WW2 and The Korean war but i dont want this to too long winded, those canadians are nice until they're not.
