"I don't know who you are. I don't know who's reading this. Heck, I don't even know if these words will survive. But, for their sakes and myself, I offer you my story...Before the world washes it away."
I am but a simple lab assistant. Although, I like to call myself an apprentice, heheh. Basically, I am studying within the Pagean continent's most illustrious and highly advanced research center. It's an amazing facility! Four separate buildings doing individual research, with a towering skyscraper in the middle that contains both the main research labs, and houses the biggest data warehouse in the world! It's amazing! I love working here, there's always something new to learn! E-even though, eheh...The work can be from tough to crazy gruelling at times. But, I manage. Somehow.
This is exciting news! Apparently, the research center is undertaking a super secret experiment! I only got to hear about it when I joined my boss and his co-workers to drink. Yeah, I only had water because I don't drink, but also because I was the designated driver...Yeah. But when they all got really drunk, one of them mentioned it out loud. I'm so lucky to hear it! Seriously, it was a good thing they were getting so sloshed. It was like they forgot I was even there. Anyway, the experiment is taking place in the underground research lab, #12. I've got some paperwork that I needed to pass along, so I may as well take a peek, right?
Hooooly crap. I...Found out what they've been doing. They've been taking these DNA samples and...Splicing them together. They're trying to make a bioweapon. H-heeey, this is the kind of stuff horror movies are made of. S-stop playing god, you guys. It can only get worse from here...
I don't...Know how to feel. The experiment was a bust. The organism couldn't seem to handle the DNA sequences, and broke apart into chunks. They're planning on dumping it and starting over, apparently. Aaah...At least we won't have a rampaging monster killing everyone.
No way. The chunks. They're all still alive. They're like...Egg cells, and they're still growing. They were placed in incubation vats and are currently being observed. There's seven of them in total, and it's too risky to collect samples from them yet. But, holy shit. What's gonna happen to them?
The results came in. Wolf, Guilmon, Lugia, dragon, Lucario, Veemon, Piyomon. Those are the results for the DNA tests they conducted on the egg cells. In fact, they're starting to form pseudopods, probably a precursor to limbs. No internal organs or bones or anything yet, though. Not even cartilage. Still...
I don't believe it. They're trying it again. I snuck a peek, and there were way more vats prepared this time. This is...What, the fifth time? H-how desperate are they?
No. No no no no no no. Ten failures. They're scrapping the project, and now they're moving onto just making themselves physical gods. Can a handful of scientists be this greedy? A-and, apparently some people are turning a blind eye. These guys are high up in the food chain, but not that high up! Unless they're bribing them or something...
W-whaaa! Lemme go! I will not be your test subject! Damn it! Lemme go! You just said the thing's not finished, right!? Lemme go! Stop it! Stop it!
...
...
...
I SAID. LET. ME. GO.
...
I can't feel anything.
I can't...See anything.
Why?
I remember. The experiment. A bright light. Screaming. I...I could feel it. People were dying...
How long has it been? My mind gets all scrambled. My memories are a thing of the past...Heheh...I can't even remember who I am anymore...Crying? Voices...Who...Are...
Oh...Little ones...Are you alone? Please...I can feel it...Your sadness, your fear, your loneliness...Yes, I-I remember...You were near when the world ended...When...I became this world's reality. You all survived...Why...I had a dream...I think I was...A mortal? What does...that mean? Shhhh. No more crying. You aren't alone. You have each other. Yes. That's it...
...Why can't you hear me? Why can't you see me? I reach out, yet I cannot feel. I am...My mind is scrambling again. If I do not focus, I...lose...consciousness...Wait.
"A body is manufactured from the depths of memory. Skin, pasty pinkish brown. Hair, black, around medium length. Wearing clothes of cotton, white. Two legs, two arms...Tail?"
"A-aaaggh...Waaaaaaghhh!"
I see you. I hear you. I pick you up...I can touch you. There there, don't cry. Where am I? A black void. Is this what's left of the old world? Or...Perhaps that was simply a dream, and this is how all worlds begin. A blank canvas to write upon, to paint. Let's see...Some wall ornaments? But, there're no walls. Perhaps a floor, then. Yes, and a small table to sit around. And a comfy futon. Ah...There's so many of you, though...Yeah, so, so many. I think there's 70 in total...No...71. I forget to count myself, heheh...Ah. I guess...I can be your father, then, little babies? Maybe?
I should really make more space. Yes, I think I can picture it...
"It's a cozy log cabin, settled on a cliff by the sea. It was large, perfect for a big family, and there's greenery all around. The smell of sea salt was in the air, as the water gently laps on the cliff below."
Yes, a happy, cozy home for us. One big happy family...Ah...But, I still don't have a name. Well...I created all this, so...I guess, I could just be called the Creator...Hmm...Maybe Crey for short.
"I said give it back!"
"No, it's mine! I saw it first!"
"Hey, Lugia! Have you been stealing toys from your siblings again?" the Creator said.
The little Pokemon turns to the large imposing fox/bull hybrid in front of him, his white fur blistering out. He proceeds to hide a wooden doll behind his back.
"Uuuhh...No?" he said uncertainly.
"...Reeeaaally?" the Creator said, cocking an eyebrow.
"..." Lugia was quiet as he holds out the doll, only for the Creator to take it and return it to the smaller blue Digimon present.
"I'm not proud of you stealing it, but I'm glad you told the truth."
A large gentle hand pets him, and the Lugia smiles a bit in return.
"Daaad, he's choking again." a Riolu calls out.
"Oh no..."
A white scaled snake enters the living room and starts patting the back of a Gigimon, who coughs up an entire dumpling.
"Chew your food this time, okay?" he said with a sigh.
As the Gigimon simply noms the food item again, the Creator turns to see a dragon whelp staring out the window.
"What are you doing over there, Dracus? Don't you wanna play with your brothers and sisters?" the Creator asked.
"...No. I kinda wanna go...Explore." he answered.
"But, there's nothing out there, and no one to interact with."
"Yeah, I know. This cabin is the entire world...But, it feels so tiny."
The Creator couldn't help but agree. Even he began to saw the cozy home as tiny and smothering.
"What if...I made the world bigger? And I filled it with people to meet." he thought.
He had never tried shaping bodies for other souls to inhabit before. But, that sounds like it would make for a fun world.
"Okay, do you all remember your names?" the Creator asked.
"Yes! My name is Wolfy! Wait, I mean Wil! Yeah, Wil!" a wolf pup piped up.
"I think it was Drake?" a dragon whelp stated uncertainly.
"Come on, kids. This will be your first foray into the great wide world! Called...Uh...N...N-new World! Yeah, that's it!"
"That sounds like such a bad name..." Luke muttered.
"Hey, I'm trying here!"
"...Dad? Why are we here in this...Big, black...Empty void?"
I didn't understand why. This world I had made...It was cruel. To save my kids, I stored them in my bedroom. While this world...It deserved to end.
Over...And over...And over again. Why? Everything seemed fine at first, but then...The pain began.
"We're humans, you disgusting creatures. Learn your place, it is we who are above you. You lowly creatures may be blessed with strength or magic that surpass us, but that is why we are blessed with intellect that rivals even gods! Bow, you snivelling cur!"
"Hahaha! Pathetic human scum. We are the Creatures of the Land! We've been blessed with incredible powers for nature favors us so! What can you weak beings accomplish? We are as mighty as elephants, or as tireless as oxen, or even able to fly like birds and swim like fish! But you humans are so brittle, it makes us laugh. Serve you betters well, or die."
"Begone, disgusting peasants. You would dare dirty my path with your gaze? You should be glad I am feeling generous today, or you shall be hanged!"
I filled it with many races. One would rise above the rest. And the world would experience great pain, which I could feel. I destroyed the world, and the horrid dragons that enslaved them all. I started over. This time, I made humans a bit more clever, but they did the same. This time, I made not just dragons, but all beastmen a bit stronger. And they too caused great pain. I had a thought that, if there were only one race, they would not cause anyone pain. I was wrong. They found some way to elevate themselves and justify their selfish desires. Racism. Classism. Elitist. Someone would find some reason to hate another, and pain would arise thereafter...
"Dad."
I wipe my tears away as my children crowd around me.
"Even if the world hurts, even when there's darkness, there are always glimmers of light." Wil said.
Ah, this one...Wil. I have begun to notice subtle differences among my children. They were all born the same way, but they are not the same. They are their own people. Hmm...Maybe I should start grouping them together, so as not to be confused. I need to think of a fitting name for that...
"This world looks amazing!"
A large, beautiful world, ripe with the conditions for nurturing life. But, it also possesses the abilities to challenge, or even end life. I had not sown the new souls into their vessels yet. I was busy making a safety device to protect each and every one of my beloved children.
"What's that red orb?" Dark Lyle asked.
I pat his head. He still has much growing to do. I push the little ball past his mouth and help him swallow it.
"I made it with the shards of broken souls. They cannot be reincarnated anymore, but I figured...I should make use of what little energy they have left." I explain.
"...That's so morbid." several of my kids say in unison.
"Hey! I'm just recycling them! And besides! If I left them be, it would fade into nothing. Plus, it serves two purposes." I held up two fingers to make a point.
They all give me their undivided attention as I start to explain.
"Number one. The soul shards act as a healing device. Should you get injured, you may use up its energy to heal yourselves. And number two! It acts as a dream for the departed. The souls can no longer be resurrected, not in their state. They can never again be brought to life. However, at the very least, they can dream before they fade into nothingness. Okay?"
Some still appear unsure, but I don't blame them. Now, anyone who dies and cannot reincarnate, I can at least bring their shattered souls together and give them to my children.
"Thanks for the present, dad. But you remember your promise for this world, right?" Feral Drake asked.
"Yes, yes. This time, this world stays for good. Through thick and thin. We laugh, we cry, we struggle together."
So, this is what it's like to have a Vassal. Being in a human body feels a bit weird. I've only tried it out a few times, but I can get used to it.
"Sir? Am I going to be your only link to the physical world?" Jun asked.
Heheheheh! I suppose...Well, maybe it wouldn't hurt to add a few more, just so Jun can enjoy his own life. Besides, I've learned one thing. I can only pay attention to one section of the world at a time, but with Jun...It's like being in two places at once! Unless I am using his body, then it's still just one place...
Light Wil breathes heavily as he lays in bed, face hot and flushed. His body is wracked with a terrible fever, which seemed to come out of nowhere. The rest of the Light Group gathered around the bed, watching him, staying by his side.
"What's happening? Please, pull through, Wil. Your siblings need you. I need you..."
There's...Two of them. Well, Light Wil has made a complete recovery, but...Who is this Wolfy in bed with him?
"Where did he come from?" Light Gill asked.
"Heck if I know. He was there when I woke up." Light Wil explained.
"Looks like he's waking up!" Akira pointed out.
"...grrrrrr!"
This wolf was animalistic. He had no sentience to speak of, just raw fury and a desire to rip and tear. I don't know what happened, or why, but Light Wil felt different. His heart seemed to be...Missing something. Yes, as if his inner darkness had manifested into physical form and split apart...What if...
"Hi dad! I love you so much!" Shadow Wil said.
I just smile and pat the pup's head. The Shadow Group is fairly recently born, but they seem to already know everything. Could they remember what the Light Group experienced? Or...Hmm.
I had recently visited a few other worlds to draw inspiration from for the New World. But I had witnessed something crazy...There's...My kids. But, they're not at the same time. They have such similarities, it's uncanny. No, beyond that. It's downright spooky! But, it seems they have nowhere to go...
"Hi, I am Wil of the Half Group! Did I get the greeting right?"
I decided to adopt them and bring them into my world. They seem much happier here, and my kids are all keen on being able to transform into human appearances now. Heh, and they...Well, I can't really call them pups or kits or whelps or...Well, they're growing up. But it seems they're insistent on keeping others guessing. Their human forms seem a little old for that range, but they keep saying that they're 12 and 6 year olds. Hahahaha! Of course, only real friends know what their real ages are! Still, they've been meeting some people more and more...
Ah, Confidants? So, they are true friends, and they seem to also have the same immortality as the Groups. But, they don't have the same red orbs as my kids, so they aren't being fueled by those...Curious. Still, I can sense some power budding inside of them that is similar to the Group they are most associated with. They can keep my kids happy when I'm not so busy.
Who...Are you?
I am...Born. From all of your negative emotions.
...Ah. Well, I am-
The Creator, I know. My desire...My wish, is to ease your pains. I want...You to be happy. Unleash me to what troubles you. I will destroy it.
I...See. Yes, I do feel anguish sometimes. Troubled, I may be, I have no outlet to give myself peace. I suppose...You are my brother, Destroyer.
Crey...I want you to be haaapppyyy...
Oh, sleepy? Take a nap. I will...Have plenty of negative thoughts for you to swallow, Des.
Des...Who are they?
They...Are...The negative emotions...Of them...
"Are you supposed to be our uncle?" Reverse Lyle asked.
Ah, it seems that Des had grown his own ego. I can't really call him my other half, when he's his own person. But it seems he's lonely too. I suppose children of his own can help him cope with this...I only hope the Reverse Group can get along with my own kids. We're family, after all.
...
......
.........
I feel...Lonely.
Perhaps...If I were to open my world, just a little bit...
But if I do that, it might brush against other worlds. Rogue portals will appear...
...
......
.........
Friends. Friends I haven't met yet. Maybe I won't feel as lonely. My kids are happy...Yes, I should open the Fused World, just a little bit.
