Maledict derives from the word "malediction", which means a phrase or an idea that is intended to bring about ill fortune or is forbidden. In this case, it refers to Maledict, being a fusion of organic and digital life, something that in certain cultures is an affront.
The story behind Maledict takes place during an election. Tomas Walker MCP, a veteran Prime Minister, was running for leadership of his party, but was being contested by two others, one seeking to derail Tomas with endless smear campaigns, and the other being Gideon Klaus, a seemingly independent candidate who came from nowhere. Whilst the leader of the opposition refused to speak to Tomas, presumably out of some populist notion that it was "fraternising with the enemy", Gideon chose to meet with Tomas to discuss his political ambitions. The two had a civil conversation, until they were ambushed by a radical, empowered by a populist opposition, and one of the candidates was badly injured. In the heat of the moment, Gideon and Tomas fused to save themselves, and made the fusion known as Maledict. They quickly dispatched the would-be assassin, with a new power that Maledict seemed to possess, now that a being of binary energy, Tomas, was fused with a user, Gideon, the ability to terminate a being of data with will alone.
Not wishing to turn down the opportunity now presented to them, Tomas utilised Gideon's charisma and cunning intellect, and his own charm and good nature, to have Maledict sworn in as a new leader of his party, avoid the smear campaigns, and rightfully penalise those who had tried in vain to hobble his campaign through violence, and secured his parliament with a landslide majority. However, that was not Gideon's end game, as Maledict soon began to explore the extent of binary energy, as Gideon pondered on a theory regarding it, that it was a stable source of an essence called Duality Anima, a fundamental component to the universe, which can transmute energy states or properties to polar opposites spontaneously. Being partly biological, Maledict could act as a catalyst to transition the digital binary energy into the physical duality anima, and combine it with others, namely the catastrophic anima he had acquired before, and could use it to override fixed universal laws and properties, including, if he had enough of each, to cancel out electronic fields, namely those that bound matter together. Worlds could be brought to ruin, or worlds could be rebuilt, including the lost world of Otorlanyss, Gideon's people.
As a result, Maledict could very much be the Minister of Disaster, able to bring about tremendous acts of destruction, now possessing the powers of interfacing with the digital matrix, and then bringing them into existence.
