The Imperial Navy and Marines initiated a joint design competition in 467 YAC to come up with a simple, durable shuttle that could mount the then new second generation jump drive in its cargo bay as well as conduct resupply in harsh conditions from miinimally prepared landing strips or under fire. As miniturization in later generations progressed this was able to be integrated into the design.
While the TSL-2 is a nearly one and a half century old design, it has shown amazing longevity and survived several attempts to replace it due to its simplicity, modularity, low cost, excellent performance, and ability to be pushed to well beyond its design limits keeps it relevant in the modern battlefield. Now on the Mark 8 variant with upgraded engines, upgraded fuel cells, enhanced fuel capacity, lengthened fuselage, avionics, sensors, and deeper integration of carbotanium into the chassis, the military has admitted that the last TSL-2 pilot has yet to be born.

Always love seeing shuttle-esque designs; the aft on this one reminds me a bit of the Valkyrie shuttles from Avatar a bit.
