When Leoncillo crossed the border into Skyrim he was lucky to have kept his gun, six paper cartridges, his hat, and his guitar. The Coureurs des Bois he traveled with had robbed and abandoned him, leaving him penniless in Markarth. He teamed up with Cosnach, an unemployed porter in the city, seeing the hidden potential beneath his bored, bitter, drunken shell. The tattered and bloody remains of his former companions and the smashed traps betrayed that Skyrim's bears were as hungry as ever and had even expanded into the Reach, a grim sign. The beasts would only move into the marginal territory of the Reach if overcrowding were especially bad.
By the time they entered Falkreath hold, bearsign was everywhere and the scent of them even hung in the air. Despite the dangers of taking on cave bears in the deep woods without traps and an experienced team, Leoncillo and Cosnach had to make a kill if they were going to have any future in Skyrim. They consulted with local poachers, who proved much more civil than Leoncillo's previous colleagues and pointed them toward Moss Mother Cavern.
