Ophidians are a very ancient race of snake-like humanoids. Once known as Ysians, they developed a great and terrible civilization while the other humanoid races were still in their infancy; and while most of their ancient cities have long crumbled and their once great empire is lost to memory, they still remember their former glory and keep their old customs alive, dreaming cold dreams of the day when the serpents will once again rule the world.
Ophidians have extremely long serpentine bodies and two humanoid arms. Their scales can range from blues and greens to browns, reds and yellows, and even rare whites and blacks; male often have spikier scale formations on their backs, atop their heads and around their eyes and jaws. Aside from that, they don't have any form of sexual dimorphism that can be recognized by humans.
They live long lives, and their minds are cold and alien to other races; prideful, rapacious and conservative, they feel very little in terms of emotions and empathy, instead focusing on desires and memories, schemes and sensations, patterns and rituals.
They are skilled masons, artisans and smiths, although their designs and their decorations often look weird and even unsettling to others. They mostly live in reclusive communities in their millennia-old cities, rarely building new settlements, as their population has been in decline for ages.
