Blimps are underrated. I wish I saw them in the sky more often--and I live next to an airport!
They should use hydrogen, as it is the lightest gas possible, it's more common and cheaper than helium, and the Hindenburg DID NOT burst into flames solely because of it. The ship's paint was doped with iron oxide ("rust") and aluminium, both of which can be combined to produce rocket fuel or thermite.
