Tawga Sigadi the Monk (From "Tales of the Dragon Tamers")
This is a commissioned character presentation created by damiem .
This is the sixth of several character presentations that I and members of my online D&D group have commissioned Damien to depict. These presentations show off the Player Characters (PC's) of our Tyranny of Dragons campaign's adventuring party known as the Dragon Tamers. The party currently includes seven members. (Since I am the DM, I am technically not one of them!)
As of this submission we are currently in "part two" of the campaign, The Rise of Tiamat!
This PC is played by the most polite and supportive torovellos , and the PC's name is Tawga Sigadi (a male tabaxi monk of the Lawful Neutral alignment).
(WARNING: The following contains mild spoilers for the D&D campaign Hoard of the Dragon Queen.)
Tawga Sigadi, whose tabaxi name translates into Common as "Whispering Mountain," never had an easy life. In his homeland he was raised by a single father so abusive that one day Tawga was forced to kill him. Placed into self exile, Tawga traveled far and lived as a starving street urchin, and even became a bandit. As an outlaw he finally found some belonging in a gang, but it was still dangerous living.
One day Tawga and his group decided to attack a carriage filled with a merchant and his retinue, believing the trader to be an easy target. What the group did not realize was they were attacking a man named Malachi Venri, a long-lived human of many talents. Part merchant, part wizard, part explorer, and part swordsman, the bandits soon found themselves in over their heads against Malachi's blade. Practically all of the thieves were killed or forced to retreat as Malachi single-handedly defeated them. However, at the end of the fight only Tawga remained. The tabaxi was suddenly asked by Malachi a question: "Why are you here?" Apparently the merchant took pity upon Tawga, and asked for the tabaxi to come with him. Despite initial confusion, Tawga found a new home and a mentor, and went on many travels and adventures as one of Malachi's multiple proteges. Tawga was also given a new name from his new master: Alvaro du Venri.
After years of learning, training, and adventuring alongside Malachi Venri, Alvaro went on his own path, becoming a successful officer of a town militia. Malachi's connections were extensive, however, and Alvaro next found himself as a guardian of a well-to-do merchant named Sir Gavries, who had a high if not witty opinion of the tabaxi. It was through traveling with Sir Gavries that Alvaro found himself sent on a mission to cure the severe ailment of a lord's son, and in the process joined the Dragon Tamers adventuring party.
While traveling with the Dragon Tamers Alvaro was in the midst of the Cult Crisis, an event spearheaded by the evil Cult of the Dragon. During this time the Dragon Tamers pursued a high ranked cult leader, a monstrous black half-dragon named Razmir Ebonheart. Much to Alvaro's shock, it was later revealed that Razmir was in fact Malachi Venri himself, physically transformed and apparently turned to evil; by this time Alvaro had not seen Malachi in several years. Malachi had joined the Cult of the Dragon in an attempt to infiltrate it and destroy it despite becoming a high ranking member who committed many atrocities. In fact, Malachi had a grand plan in which he felt he was doing good for the Sword Coast despite the cost, but in the end Malachi was both betrayed and defeated by another dragon cultist named Tylsa Stravenger. Despite his crimes, Alvaro and the Dragon Tamers both rescued and spared Razmir, who admitted to his wrongs and became an ally of the adventuring party. Razmir later entirely took back his old name Malachi Venri, but by then his reputation was irreparably damaged once his time with the Cult was revealed to the public.
Several years after the Cult Crisis came the Second Dragonfall War, and in this new and dire conflict Alvaro--now known by his original name Tawga--became the leader of a resistance group known as the Phoenix Knights. With them, and supporting the cause of the freedom-fighting Liberation along with the Dragon Tamers party, Tawga has proven his worth time and again with his skill in the martial arts and level headed mind. Additionally, during the war Tawga was never far from his magical quarterstaff. Known as the Staff of Amatsu, this weapon contained the spirit of Yoshinobu, a wise and venerable silver dragon who had originally lived in the Far East before his passing.
