This was totally not what I planned on doing for my next Illustration project, but decided to try for several reasons.
First and foremost being, I need more practice in Painter. Granted, I have more to learn about it, but I really do enjoy using the oil brushes and the oily blenders. Two, we have our senior portraits due November 23rd. I'm not really sure this is what I want mine to be, but if for some reason I run out of time or can't think of another idea, here is my back up. And three, I'd like to have more experience at closer to life illustrations. Granted, I prefer my usual style over the highly rendered and realistic, but the few I manage, I am pleased with.
Oh, why not. And four, I miss my rattie baby. <3

Amazing!! D8>> Oh man I love this... the colors and everything are just PERFECT! I wish I had even half as good a grasp of digital coloring as you do!! *___*
Beautiful, I thought it was a photograph when it was on my submissions page XD
Awesome I love how your trying out the painterlyness, this was a success! :3
There aren't enough Ws in the world to accurately describe how "awww" this is.
I miss my rat </3 My sweet Mimi passed almost a year ago and i miss her dearly after a short 2 years together her and i had taught many people not to fear rats. took mimi to tons of local events and everyone in town, especialy the kids, loved her. But she's gone now.. i think someday i'll get her tattoo'd on the side of my neck. since she sat on my shoulder in the same way as your painting. and i want her there forever.
