These two are so cute. I love the playful, friendly feeling you've captured between them, and you've done a great job of capturing the almost sisterly vibe they seem to share. I love the bright, vibrant colors, especially in the above water portion of the image, where the sun is shining down on them to give the scene such a warm, cheerful feel. The bubbles floating up around them, and the pond weeds just under the surface, are such a nice touch as well. As for realistic water effects, I'm kind of glad you chose to forgo them, since I think it looks better this way. Besides, the "camera" is close enough to them I think it would probably be fairly minimal anyway. I think it's a gorgeous picture and wonderfully well done all around!
