It's a bug, bug's aren't smart. Plus just need a big strong warrior type to help kick that bug's butt.
They need to get a sample of the beetle alive. Probably killing it would have been easier, but that was not the task :P
I suppose you can only take it as narrative and visual element of storytelling. I have no justification of why a furred creature would sweat, but it can always be said that that's the "human" factor in an anthropomophic creature :P
I appreciate the input and that's something I'll most certainly keep in mind. I believe I can find ways to make that detail work under some circumstances. I don't believe that this subject has only one way to do it right and many ways to do it wrong as you say. Logically for me, it makes better sense to reflect more strongly the human half of these characters, for multiple reasons.
We could start by saying that not all furred animals pant to refresh their bodies, other cooling systems such as using external elements of using large ears as cooling systems exsist too. Not to mention that, most animals wouldn't keep a prolongued anaerobic effort for a long time like in this case, and even if they did, the time to show the panting would be after the actual effort, and that would leave out a very useful visual element to show the strong effort while it's being done. There's always some level of artistic freedom and I believe in this case I can live with bending reality a little in order to better express an idea through visuals.
Secondly, there's a "foreign" element on a humanoid face panting. Depending on the approach it can go from looking weird, looking like making funny face and the usual "perverted look". I can imagine that characters panting sticking their tongue out can be appealing when the subject is about expressing sexual satisfaction. But there's a somewhat inherent "perverted" feeling to that facial expression that I don't think that works for every single situation. Specially for the type of furry characters that I draw, that are one step away from simply being humans with ears and tails, and so are closer to the human side of the spectre than the animal side. That and the fact that the aesthetic of the panting is not that appealing to me.
I believe that's the advantage of having diverse artists on the community, so there's always something for everyone there :)
