Serenity'
Something I needed to do for myself between other projects and my work desktop crashing twice in the last month.
What to say about the piece? A different kind of gryphon C:. Inspired by swans, snow leopards, snowy owls and the critter from Trico, the sequel to Shadow of the Colossus. This took longer than expected...though it's very minimalistic. Originally intended to have either flower blossoms, leaves or lilypads floating in the water but in the end decided it would just distract from the clean minimalistic look I originally intended.

size: 30"x20" at 200dpi (computer couldn't handle more)

Wow. I really, really, really like this piece. The simplicity is wonderful and gives it the serene feeling you were aiming for. The creature is so creative and different, but it works. The water looks great even as it blends into the darkness. And the little bits of fur texturing are lovely, as is the reflection. I really like it. :)
this is really pretty, creative, and very well done. nice work and keep it up ^_^
That's honestly very, very pretty. It's out of your usual fare, methinks.
The water effects and the colors are splendid.

Wow, this is really, really beautiful. I really love the face, it's something you don't see too often with gryphons. And of course, the colors, they amaze me even more. And the light is awesome too. I just don't know what to say, I just want to open my photoshop again and try until I can do something amazing like this too. x_x
rofl..."30"x20" at 200dpi (computer couldn't handle more)" My computer couldn't handle half that size XD
This is very beautiful, I really love the style, though my favourite part is the background colour and water. This is certainly something you could hang on your wall. Gorgeous!

Wow, this piece is kinda immersive... quiet, serene... beautiful...
Oh my goodness... this is beautiful!
I love the underwater plants - and the gryphon is so unusual but pulled off so well! I especially love the feathers on the tail, with the feather tip markings mimicking the spots on a snowleopards tail...
Water is challenging to depict convincingly, but you've done a wonderful job!
:oozes fangirlishness onto your shoes: ^.^,,

That is gorgeous! I really like the color and the lighting is superb. Excellent work.
This is just absolutely gorgeous. The gryphon's features are so uniquely combined, and the sense of depth you were able to create with the water is simply astounding. I love how soft the feathers and fur look, and all of the little lighting details, especially the light shining through the membrane of the creature's ears.
Yet another chime in of appreciation, this is stunningly beautiful. :)
He's so absolutely soft and warm looking, so peaceful and serene, this is absolutely beautiful and I felt the overwelming need to fave it.
Absolutely gorgeous <3 If I could fave this times 100 would :3
You wouldn't believe how much of a compliment I take that to be!!!
Amazingly odd, and no little frightening, but very well done. Minimalist is perfect for it.
The leaves under the water in the foreground are a particularly cool detail.
wow how did you manage to make the reflection of the gryph in the water so good?? O.o
The very first thing that grabbed my attention was the way the surface of the water was interacting with the leg and tail. I can almost see the fine, waterproof down of the leg and tail repelling the water. There's a subtle colouration at the waterline that's superb! The tail has weight and is actively repelling then water. It's such a small detail, but to me, it's stunning in its realism.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of artwork i have ever seen. Im blown away
I never thought of having the nose and the beak coexist! It looks beautiful, honey! <3
I like the darkness of the water in contrast to it's purity. Very nice!
Good stuff, cutie. :3

I first thought that this is done with oil colours! Absolutely gorgeous. The water and the plants under the surface look beautiful and the swan-gryphon's looks is perfect. ^^ Beauty in a white!
This is just beautiful... I can't say anything else. ^_^

This is titled so perfectly. I look at this, and I feel the Serenity of the piece...it makes a happy song in my heart. The peacefulness of it, the gentle quality of it, this is a beautiful beautiful piece.
Very unique and interesting character concept. And absolutely gorgeous use of shading and light.
O_O
Wow..thats...just damn amazing.
If your artskills were food all the starving people in the world would be well fed for 3 years. XD

There are plenty of good artists out there, but so few of them can "capture life" the way you do. Subtle things like eye reflections, texture gradients in the feathers, the slight translucency in the ear...etc. The beauty of how natural this feels is awe-inspiring.
My envy of your abilities is surpassed only by my admiration for them.

Although I would've liked to see a lily or two just to add a better sense of scale, but their exclusion does not detract from the beauty of this picture in any way.
I did play with it trust me! but everything I did just took away from the pure...quiet..just disturbed the balance. I may yet crack open the file because it seems just because I call a piece finished, does not mean it actually is ;). Thank you for the absolutely lovely comment!
Holy carp this is AMAZING! I love the sense of calm you've portrayed.... Very well done. Instant Fave and Watch for sure!
yep C:,, I can only offer 8.5x11s from myself but I have bigger prints available through DA C:
this just...looks great. don't know how else to say it, but this just seems so..relaxed, as was your intention
Holy moley, I love the details put into this. I'm really liking the reflection of the gryphon in the water and the symmetry in particular.
I have never seen such a powerful depiction of a fantasy creation done in such an utter perfection before. This is hard to believe that this creature doesn't exist in such a physical form on this planet. I absolutely adore how you are able to create so much depth and realism with simple and bold brush strokes combined with a few finer aspects and shades.
This is finest art as we know it just that the degree of originality exceeds our mind. ;)

I was really struck by the facial structure of this gryphon, very beautiful and unique. The lighting, the water rippling, everything is just simply amazing.
All I can think of when I see the title is "I can kill you with my brain" :BBB
Mroo, this is a beautiful piece and one of those very original Baraa idears~ :) Also love your lighting as always... you always make your highlights look almost translucent, just pretties... ^__^

Beautiful...the title fits it so well, it's like it swims on a sea of nothing. It has a great "space" quality to it, and I do love the details, especially the plants in the shallower end of the water.
The cere as a feline nose is just stellar. I didn't even realize it at first, but then it suddenly 'popped' mentally and I was like *wow*.
Oh shit from the thumb Nail i thought this was a super fantastic epic photoshopped Immage
I *want* a couple of them! X-D I love every bit of it. The beak idea is especially good though, it looks a very good way to put a functioning mammal-like nose on a beak without making it look out of place. Such details need to be remembered.
So realistic that it makes me do double-takes everytime I see it.... O_o;
I came across this on someone's favs, and I wish I could multi fav this piece. Balaa you are a master, and I adore you and your work
You are a fantastic artist, Balaa!
Fantastic work there, kudos!

Ooooh, I saw this in someone's favourites gallery, and I while I love the gryphon creature (very unique facial features!), I absolutely LOVE how this is a mix of both detailed and simplistic! :D
I would say more, but I honestly can't think of anything else to say. :P I'm sure I'd be stating the obvious, anyways.
It is amusing how people will say "That looks weird." or "Too strange :\" or "wtf is that?" when they're participating members of an Anthropomorphic-Animal-Fandom-Art-site.
That being said, this looks awesome, very unique--a bit strange, but beautiful. Good work on the reflections as well. I like that you can see the leg beneath the water as well; you kept transparency in mind.
Very well done.

Oh wow, I'm actually pretty obsessed with that tail, myself. I can see it so clearly, lazily swishing about. <3
Oh! Oh my GOSH! This is just so adorable and beautiful! I *love* this new species you've dreamed up :)
Amazing to see such a unique take on the gryphon, and so beautifully done, too. Your mastery of light is amazing; I love how the beak and ear look slightly translucent, just like in real life.
It's talented people like you that make me want to throw away all my art supplies and go into business management.
the amount of talent you possess is ridiculous!!!!!!!lol-amazing piece after amazing piece!must add you to my watch list NOW!!!!! this is super gorgeous work!!!!!!
The image is so clean and crisp.
The water is wet.
