So I was gonna hold off sharing him until I got the costume done, but erf. I can"t seem to find any red/brown furs that are perfect for a st. bernard...so it may still be a while.
I grew up with St. Bernards as a kid back in Russia. When we immigrated we somehow managed to bring a puppy (Pillar) with us to the states. Considering how hard it was for us to escape the USSR(at the time) as it was, I am surprised we managed to get her over here with us. I remember us hiding her in our train compartments xP. I also remember how heartbroken I was when we lost her in the states due to heartworms, which we never knew existed (since we never had problems with them in Russia). To this day I still love St. Bernards and so "Up" is my homage to that love and to the furry siblings I shared my childhood with. The name has an obvious inspiration...but also just an abbreviated version of pup="up.
The bandana would have little patches sewn on it from all the places he has adventured to 8].
The colored version is courtesy of Louvelex shoving me to do a color version which she then used for twisted and heinous means >8\

The colored drawing is certainly my favorite of the bunch.

Either Ive been living under a rock or BALAA'S BACK! <3 A heart-touching backstory worthy of a full scale novel. Lil 'Up is quite adorable. Love the homey touch of the scarf. :3
Wow, quite an interesting character to go with quite an interesting personal history!
That's quite a story. I wish I could meet more people who would take their dog along with them on such a grueling journey. The only other person who would have done this is my mother - not my friends, acquaintances or even my father or my siblings would care enough. Big bonus points to your family, and I can tell you drew this with affection.
What an adorable pup and what an interesting story. What we do for our pets, huh? Being a military family, we dragged our pets with us overseas everywhere we went, so I can sorta relate. Thanks for sharing!
very cute guy, I like the cartoony looks with the fluffy fur. the colour view makes him look mischievious ("Who, me?"), the tongue-y smiles are great (was there ever any dog who looked menacing with the tongue lolling out?), and interesting fur mark on the back. that explains the name... the only way is up, right? :) and what's in the little barrel, 7up maybe?
I also love the little clumsy pawhands. I guess that's what a paw would look like turned into a hand. ^^

I saw this on your Livejournal ( I check it on regular basis), good stuff. Bernards are one of my fave breeds and I'm so disappointed that they are not very popular among furries. :( They need more love!
What an amazing story... I had no idea your past was so interesting!
And this is a very cute character!
