Flint is one of many drillers for the Resistance, teaching and instructing rookies and recruits the use of Wispons. Not planning to use LIVE WEAPONS on green-as-grass soldiers, he keeps a small array of paintball-modified safe versions for safe combat use. Target practice, motion shooting, leading shots, stuff like that. The passing exam always consists of using what they know in a one-on-one situation against him, then a team session of two teams in a somewhat loose free-for-all but teams.
Flint knows all too well the harshness of the war with Eggman, developing a guilt complex over sending hopeful, inspired recruits off to fight for their lives. At least keeping it out of the way of his work, he tends to save the quiet, sad time for when he's alone. It plagues him often that he knows he'll never see some of them again most of the time. Everywhere else, he's full of energy and encouragement, because they'll need it. Death Egg Robot mass production isn't a fun thing to deal with. Never getting angry with the trainees, always willing to lend an ear or a hand in helping them understand techniques.
Flint's personal preference of Wispon is Lightning, but has keen experience in all forms of Wispon use, as an instructor should be. You can't really make a paint version of a BLACK HOLE GUN so Void Wispons aren't really used by him in teaching. There are others who'll do that for him, if they come back alive. Can you imagine a recruit just opens fire with the Void Wispon and everyone just fuckin dies wow.
Flint's codename for operations, when needed, is 'Lock'. Most claim it's due to his keen shooting and how he seems to 'lock' targets with gunfire. It's just because Flint lock = Flintlock. Which is just the right amount of SEGA cheesiness.
TL;DR - Pleasant, friendly and all-round cool but jaded drill instructor that hates sending rookies off to war immediately, despite the necessity. Not Baldric tier at least.
