That's one great truck! :D I'm normally more for cabovers (I love the Freightliner COE series from the sixties/seventies, 290 Cummins or inline DD 6-71) but wow! This one's great too! :D
LOL MY second tgruck was a Pete COE, 1969 pre Pacemaker cab with a DD 6-71 {238 hp] and a 10 speed roadranger trans. bought in '75, very used. Not the most powerful truck around, bot got pretty good milage for the time, about 6 mpg. we played with it, and eventually rebuilt the motor with -90 brown tag injectors and turned it up to 2600 rpm redline, figured it was putting out about 325 hp at the max. took forever to get it rolling, but ran good once it was moving.,at least on the flats, just don't show it any kind of a hill. Strictly an east coast rig, back when the limits were 73,280 pounds gross, and 55 feet overall length. Coe tractore asnd 40-42 foot trailers. 'THE GOOD OLD DAYS" nOT! the colonel
What an awesome truck ! I really love it my uncle has 2 trucks but these are European ones! But yours is much better!
Out there on a roadway somewhere there must be a similar rig marked "Calvin."
The funny thing is that my former boss had the character of Hobbs the Tiger etched in the door glass of the first truck that I drove for him. A '94 Pete 359 which was the first truck that he actually bought new. He still has it and it is his personal truck. I drove it when I first started working for him Put about 150,000 miles on it until he got a new Pete for me to drive, the gold one. Then with the fuel prices in the stratosphere he bought the 386 to try to better the company fuel average. It helped but not as much as he hoped. All in all I drove for him for nine years untill circumstances, ans the change in traffic patterns forced a downsizing and I was RIFed. No bad feelings, would have done the same if I was in his position. Still stop by the shop and see what is happening, Hobbs Inc. is still running, but having the same problem that most of the industry is having, that of getting, and keeping, good drivers. Not me, however...Medical issues cost me my CDL about three years ago, and though I possibly could get it back, no real desire to. I personally do not like the way things have gone in the industry, not that the changes ,in and above themselves, are a bad thing.. actually saw thises things coming years ago, but driving is a younger persons game these days, and most of the new ones are less than what I personally want to share the road with..Old curmudgeon me. LOL! Enough of my rant, have a good day and take care of yourself. THE COLONEL
Thanks Colonel. Sorry for taking way too long to respond to your interesting and informative reply. The next time I'm out on the road I'll have to check and see any images of Calvin etched on the back windows of similar rigs. ...Not that one of Calvin smirking over his shoulder and "Whizzing" on a rival truck brand though.
