Jumping the queue here one last time, with something more topical, if, a bit late. I was listening to news of the votes roll in on election night as I finished polishing the prose and rhyme.
I"ve been so late in finishing these political pieces (as if any of them would"ve swayed public opinion) that I"d thought of naming the series "A Day Late and a Dollar Short".
In fact, it was that phrase that probably brought this old Johnny Cash tune bubbling up from my memory. It almost wrote itself: Just as Samuel Johnson wrote that nothing focuses the mind like knowing that you"ll be hanged in the morning, it"s amazing what the fervor of trying to do at least a little something to save one"s country can do for motivation.
