(I discovered it by accident; I was writing a story, using babynames.com and translate.google.com for inspiration and, out of curiosity, started entering names from Zootopia into the translator...) :)

Well, "manchas" would usually be "stains" in Spanish. For "spots" it would be better "puntos" or, as a diminutive (or if they are actually quite small), "puntitos". However, if we are specifically talking about the "dots" on animals then "manchas" would also be correct. This is because they are parts of fur/skin with a color that is different from the rest present on most part of the animal's body, so they are like "stains" (manchas) on it that 'break' the homogeneity.
