Ha ha ha. "Coon" is a Southern racial slur against blacks. First Martin Luther King Jr. And now Rosa...You just can't win with this African American stuff can you?
Joking aside I love this.

Came here to say this. This might be on par or even more offensive than the MLK Jr. ones. ._.;
Not my color, not my culture, but oi... tread with care, yeah?

As a "person of color", I actually adore this piece. Raccoons, like Ms. Parks, are obstinate. If they want something, they'll fight for it, even squaring up against things bigger than them to do so. This perfectly captures the kind of strong woman that she was, and the fact that coon is a slur down here in the south just makes it all the better to show that just because you're given a name doesn't mean you have to obey its negative connotations.
Seriously. It'd be nice if we could just appreciate the art for what it is rather than trying to tie racial or political stuff to it.
Yeah. Sadly, it still goes on so it's hard to separate the innocent ideas, from insensitive gestures, and further from the outright rude at times.
yeah, i agree but those slang words had a meaning long before these images were done to it's nearly impossible to not have some bearing on the art, intended or not. So far i love this series but yeah as a black person myself there is no way i could look at this and not think of the slang terms. Sad, but true.
As a canadian living in thailand, I can absolutely confirm that a thai would have NO idea that racoons could possibley be a slur against anyone. My goodness, I didn't even know it was a slur until I made a similar mistake (I had a character who dressed in racoon paraphernalia, and named her 'yoon the coon'--yikes!!) and someone very kindly let me know that it could be 'taken the wrong way'. Some reaserch into the phrase told me why, and holy shit I was so embarassed lmao. I have no doubt this is much they same situation. It is just impossible to know unless you are a part of that culture or otherwise study it...
It is a shame, racoons are adorable as hell, but no one deserves to be confronted with racial slurs used against them. Sigh.

Do not be so embarrassed. Context Is important and the word "raccoon" does not have this.
If you mean no harm and cause no harm. Then do not apologize for nothing wrong.

too true! too true! trust me, i say the same thing when weboo's think they are honoring Japanese culture when really they understand so little. It's hard not to have a knee jerk reaction to stuff like this but i try to remind myself and others that not everyone knows our history (or even should) because lord knows we really don't give a damn about theirs.
As another person of color, I'm not offended. It's obvious that there's no malice behind this art piece. There's no racist features on Park's face and honestly I find this badass
Such a beautiful piece! <:D
You're really good at drawing people and the caricature work is spectacular too! :D

I would have made her an Owl personally. Graceful, Wise, Powerful when she needed to be most. That was Rosa parks.
IM MA GOHNNA WATCJH MY JACUKE BROWNZE BE FO DIS GET TAKEIN AWAY FRO ME >>>>>>>>>>>>:(
Er.....you did a very good job on Rosa Parks herself and the raccoon but..... were you aware that to some people, this could be called offensive ?
I would suggest that you do research when pairing certain people with certain animals.

They are from Thailand. What's a slur in America (and really, only in the DEEP south) is not going to be a slur elsewhere.
Awesome piece, but i don't understand what attributes a raccoon has that are applicable to Rosa Parks. Then again, a lot of the animal choices are salt and pepper/hit and miss with my mind.
Interesting match...! Gotta say, among all the color palettes I've seen from you, this is one of my favorites.
