This was done by the super talented airwolf1987 as the 2nd part of my commission along with the ref sheet he made. Again I love it, just what I wanted! So much so that I had to write a bit of a short story. WHICH YOU MUST READ!
Ahem.
Bear-sitting
Michelle hadn’t realised just how difficult babysitting could be. Her first job had been easy, a pup less than a year old who was already in her crib when Michelle arrived. All she had to do was check on the little Collie, and do her home work.
This time was different. Loopy had been wide awake when she had arrived, and all he wanted to do was play. His Daddy had warned the young Cheetah that Loopy could be a bit of a handful, but she didn’t really believe him. Loopy had hid behind his Dad’s leg, clutching a brown teddy bear, and peeking out with big blue eyes.
“How could such a shy little cub be a handful?” She had thought.
Mr Bear left at six with instructions that Loopy’s bedtime was half past seven, and a promise to be back no later than ten o'clock.
Loopy soon turned out to be anything but shy. They’d played lots, Loopy running around with a toy rocket, being a spaceman, and exploring everything with Commander Toby the teddy! Michelle giggled and pretended to be Mission control, then a space alien who after lulling the little cub into a false sense of security turned into a tickle monster. The little cub kicked and squealed with laughter as she tickled him all over, only stopping when Loopy blushed, and soaked his nappy. After a quick change into a thick nighttime nappy, and a big post change hug, she had declared it was bed time.
“NO!” said the cub, defiantly. Michelle was taken aback a little at the determination in his voice.
“It’s your bedtime little one,” She said.
“Dun wanna!” Loopy said again, pouting a little.
“But your Daddy said you had to go to bed now hun,” She tried to reason.
“I’m gonna play!” Loopy stated, then ran off grabbing his rocketship and running around the room. Michelle didn’t know what to do, her own nephews loved bedtime stories, and went with no trouble. She’d never faced this before!
“ROOOOAAARRRRRRR!” the little cub said as he ran past, holding the rocketship as high as he could.
“Loopy.” She said, trying to put an edge of control in her voice. The cub ignored her, climbing on the sofa and bouncing up and down, giggling.
“Loopy!” She repeated again, feeling like she was losing control.
“Stop bouncing, if you fall and hurt yourself…” she tailed off, imagining explaining to Mr Bear just what had happened.
“Please Loopy!” She pleaded, close to tears. Loopy stopped bouncing, hearing the panic in his sitter’s voice.
“Dun cry ‘ichelle.” Loopy said, clambering off the sofa and running up to her. Instinctively he clamped on to her leg, giving the biggest, hardest bearhug he could. Michelle couldn’t help but smile, feeling a little better. She ruffled the little bear’s head fur, and he looked up at her, still holding tight. He let out a big yawn, shocking himself. He tried to hide it but Michelle had already seen. A plan formed in her head. She just had to get him upstairs.
“Ok, ok Loopy,” She said, still stroking him. “You win, we’ll keep playing.”
“Yay!” Said the cub, pleased that he didn’t have to go to sleep.
“There is one planet I haven’t seen yet.” She said “can you guess what it is?”
The bear stood back and thought.
“Nuhuh” He declared after giving the subject due consideration.
“It’s the mysterious and distant planet Upstairs!” She said, pointing dramatically at the stairs. Her drama class was at least helping a little. “I’ve heard it’s a very scary place, and little space bears shouldn’t go up there!”
“I’m not scared!” Declared Loopy, puffing his chest out.
“I can see,” Michelle said with a giggle. “Let's explore it!”
Loopy grabbed his rocket, holding it upright on the ground, bent over with his padded bum in the air.
“10! 9! 2! 8! 3! 4! 1!” He cried, then with a woosh flew the rocket straight to the stairs. He started making his way up awkwardly, on all 4s, but still trying to fly the rocket. Michelle followed him, making sure he didn’t fall. They soon made it to the top and Loopy ran straight to the door of his room. He stopped suddenly at the threshold, turning and looking at Michelle intently.
“What’s up?” She asked
“I forgot Toby!” He said, his expression showing just how serious this was!
“I’ll go back and get him,” Michelle said. “go wait on your bed and I’ll bring him up, and some juice.”
“OK” Loopy said, he went and clambered on to the bed, a large crib with the side lowered. Michelle quickly went downstairs, grabbing the dark brown teddy bear off the floor where he’d been left, and fixing a sippy cup of apple squash. She went back upstairs, not wanting to leave the cub alone for too long.
Entering the room she saw Loopy asleep in the crib. She’d known he was hiding how tired he was, and that as soon as he was on the bed he’d fall asleep quickly. Loopy was laid on his back, another lighter bear clutched at one side, and the rocketship still gripped in his paw. She smiled, and set Toby down next to him, then seeing a blue dummy on a bedside table, gently offered it to his half open mouth. The little bear took the paci and started sucking without stirring. Michelle sat down in a comfy armchair next to the bed with a sigh, glad the bear had finally worn himself out. She closed her eyes just for a moment, and soon slipped into sleep herself.
