No one would have believed...
A parody of "War of the Worlds", which I created after noticing that the introduction of the classic novel, reminded me of my own ambitions to immigrate to the states.

Now, I create this prose to, shall we say, have some laughs and reaffirm my dreams to call America my home. Also, Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" may have been the first science fiction novel I have read as a child, but H. G. Well's "War of the Worlds" was the catalyst that got me into science fiction to start with.
And yes, I'm addicted to the Jeff Wayne musical interpretation of the novel.

Fluffy blanket, slippers and cell phone equipped, now I just need rain to start so I can settle down and listen to H.G. Wells now that you brought up old memories.
There is a animated interpretation of novel, showing mankind having reverse engineered martian technology, and banding together to fight the threat.
The martians have developed more powerful tripods, and created their own dogfighting spaceships as well.

I've read now I must ask... how much of this was historical fiction and how much memoirs?
And welcome to the States. :3

"I've read now I must ask... how much of this was historical fiction and how much memoirs?"
Not sure how to answer that.
Of course, if you've read your WW2 history, you should be aware of what Singapore experienced during the Japanese occupation. They showed no mercy, and the traumatic experience explains why there is some justification for Conscription for the Singapore military, and also why most Singaporeans strive very hard to ensure that the country's economic strength is very high.
Looking at the country itself, you can see that we have no deposits of crude oil, nor coal, nor natural gas. Precious minerals like gold, silver, iron, copper, tin...etc, are also absent. All we have is our population.
As such, we had to struggle very hard in the early years of the country.
Geographic and population wise, our island is very small with not much space to go around. You can imagine how cramped it is. And being a country located in southeast asia, it's humid.
And of course, as with most Asian countries, academics is highly valued. Blue collar labour is frowned upon. That's why I want to come to the States, I'm fed up with being looked down upon, just because I'm not academically inclined.
And then there's the cultural aspect:
Because I'm Chinese, I'm expected to be "submissive, meek, never questioning authority". I'm also supposed to excel at academics, and must cherish my Chinese heritage and language like some arrogant fanatic.
I'm not supposed to question authority, be lousy at my mother-tongue, lest I be branded a traitor.
Hell, I remember the flak I received for being lousy when speaking chinese, They say I'm betraying my heritage. According to their logic, because my great-grandmother was from Portugal, and my father's ancestors were Peranakan Chinese, I should be forced to speak both Portuguese and Indonesian, even though I absolutely suck at any language other than English.

Was it better than another random smut story?
That seems to be the only thing that gets people's attention, and comments now.
======
This in turn reminds me of the reason why I came to the States....College. Electrical and computer engineering to be precise.
It figures, that getting a full time job in a real life technical vocation would be more fruitful, than drawing furry art. No offence Maverikat, but when was the last time we've seen a furry fandom celebrity have their picture on Fortune 500?, or Popular Science?
