[OLD/ABANDONED] Azlo - Gods and Dogs
UNFINISHED PROJECT - ABANDONED MAY 2010
In a world of feline demi-gods, Azlo rarely passes up an opportunity to show tiny canines where they belong.
Anyone who has seen either of the Great Unfinished Collections in my scraps (Vol I and Vol II) will know that I always have a lot of works in progress which I am yet to complete. This is the third of three abandoned pieces of artwork which I have now decided to upload in their unfinished states as I no longer plan on finishing them in their current forms.
This picture was intended as a surprise gift to dylan, whose work I had always enjoyed, particularly pieces featuring his feline demi-god character Azlo. However, I stopped working on it in May 2010. It can be seen in Panel 5 of Volume I of my unfinished collection.
Given that it was meant as a gift, this is the piece with which I became most annoyed that I never finished. I initially ceased work on it after becoming unsatisfied with the way I had drawn Azlo's left foot (i.e. the one closest to Mike), but I also wasn't 100% happy with the way I'd drawn the legs and the face. I briefly attempted to do some redrawing of the foot, but I never quite got it to look the way I wanted to which frustrated me.
As such, I gave up on it for a while. By the time I came back to it - much like the abandoned Rocky picture from the previous month - my shading methods had completely changed and it would have been very awkward to continue working on it in its current state. What's more, I later discovered that the grey coloured fur I'd given Azlo was actually incorrect - Dylan revealed elsewhere that the character actually had black fur and his scanner had simply been failing to pick up the tone effectively, hence I felt I would've needed to restart the whole colouring process. Given that I believed the drawing needed redoing anyway, I failed to muster up sufficient enthusiasm for restarting the project and never completed it.
For that, I want to make an apology to Dylan. I know that's daft, given that this was meant to be a surprise gift - not a request or a commission - but it always annoyed me that I never finished it. Within the last year or so, I did privately reveal to Dylan that I had this project in my unfinished pile, but at that stage I still had intentions to finish it. Now I've decided to draw a line under it as too much time has passed, but I remain fond of the character and may well create new artwork of him in due course.
Sorry I never got this done, mate, but hope at least seeing the unfinished version might give you a smile.

I still do expressions like this! Perhaps just not as often anymore. But thanks!
Ha! Well I'm glad. And yes, I'm probably too self-critical, but then I've always considered it a motivator for improvement. If I do get around to drawing Azlo or any of your characters again in future, I'd hope it would look better than this.
Thanks anyway, mate!
Thanks anyway, mate!
Loving the splayed toes on his leftfoot there. Hot ass feet before me~, Hnnng . And it maybe unfinished n now abandened, but it still looks prety good. Very nice :).
Not sure I follow - are you asking whether I'm ever going to draw Bugs Bunny? If so, the answer is yes.
For something unfinished or abandoned, this is still incredible dude, lovely work!
It's nice to see this kind of work from you again RipRoarRex. Even if it's unfinished and/or abandoned, you did a fantastic job with everything. Azlo looks amazing!
Gosh I've always loved his character and his art for like ever >///> His characters just have the most attractive personalities and you captured the personality of his fursona spot on perfectly <333
nice view . wishes i was in your spot being a paw toy hee hee. nice work here Triple R . its good to finaly hear and see some stuff from you was worried before
What software did you make this on? This looks great to me anyway.
I've only ever used versions of Paint Shop Pro for my digital artwork (software made by either Jasc or Corel, depending on how long ago we're talking). My 2007 art was done with Jasc Paint Shop Pro 6. This was made in 2010 so I suspect it was done using Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7. Since 2011 I've been using Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 - same program but a few enhanced features that help me out a little bit.
This is meant to be unfinished!? This looks amazing enough as it is! I'm glad to see you post it up for us to enjoy rather than letting it sit unappreciated in your mass of unfinished works. You did a great job nailing Azlo's character. He's certainly enjoying tormenting Mike here.
You love making Mike your own Butt Monkey, don't cha? And that's why he's my favorite charactwe
Heh - Butt Monkey?! Bit harsh, he's meant to represent me!
I find this pretty awesome RRR, I can see why ya look at it the way you do, but still, a great piece none the less and you've gotten way better since ^^. Though I do miss the flat coloured, comic styles you had before that year. Some RRR nostalgia heh.
