Ever since I began with the first night play-through from Markiplier on Five Nights at Freddy's I had no doubt that this game was gonna be a horrific but thrilling thing to follow. What surprised me to most (besides Freddy) was the instant growth of popularity, in particular, from the furry & Brony fandom. I guess simple mechanics, a suggestive back story and a horror genre with realization makes for a successful game. I actually compared this to the same success Slender had back in 2012. All I know is now, no matter how much they change their image, I am not getting any closer to Chuck E. Cheese (or any Pizzaria for the matter).
(By the way, if you don't already know, the reference of my joke for this image is "Pawn Stars" - a show I greatly admire)

Not to me personally, but probably because I analyze everything I watch, and saw the scares coming. However, I must admit the atmosphere they create gives a feeling of unease if nothing else kicks you in to be more observant out of suspicion/curiosity

Considering the actual back story, I think even if he put on a fur suit he would still get stuffed into a Freddy suit.
Actually, it was explained by the Phone guy that is he tried to put the suit on, they might think he's a walking suit without his robotics and thereby stuff a metal armature into the suit.

Product placement, puns, and perilous uh...peril? Nicely drawn, as always, but more than that, I got the most out of what you wrote. It baffles me how this game got so insanely popular, whereas the only reason I even knew it existed was because I happened to see a roommate of mine play it once. Once. >.>
Well, it's done pretty well. The music and the sound effects do a good job of creating a truly creepy ambience, and the creep factor only intensifies as you see what's happening in the rest of the building. Even the jump scares are well-done, with Golden Freddy as the most subtle followed by Foxy. It helps that your enemies all have different behavior patterns:
Bonnie and Chica are free-roaming; they're not very fast and they follow set patterns -- mostly.
Foxy needs moderation to keep him at bay. Watch him too much or too little and you'll have half a second to get the door closed as he runs down the hall. Note that it takes a quarter of a second to put down the monitor interface... and that, unlike Bonnie and Chicka, he does NOT wait at the door.
Freddy is the most unpredictable, especially given he starts moving relatively late in the game. Well, that and he changes everyone else's patterns on Night Six.
And then there's Golden Freddy, who can actually be stopped -- if you're fast enough. And if none of the others have gotten in while you deal with him.
Throw in that it capitalizes on the inherent unease created by old animatronics, and it's no wonder they're planning the sequel.
(Creepy fact: The shriek you hear with each jump scare? That's a real sound -- the scream of a child. Likewise, Freddy's laughter is a slowed-down giggle from a little girl. Creepily, this makes sense in terms of the game...)

...I've heard people say these things before of other games. Amnesia was apparently a big thing back then, and people kept saying "Oh, this game is so scary, and da da da". For me, when it comes to horror, I'm insanely picky. Much of what is viewed as horror these days is nothing compared to what I view as the model definition of true horror.
I'll give it the point that it's an interestingly presented game, I don't get anything out of jump scares or freaky looking things. Often, they don't bother me. But uh...yeah. Even when Slender became popular, I admit that I found it rather unnerving, but not really horror to me. Same goes for more mainstream games and other forms of media... It's me, though, I guess.

If you want to get picky, Freddy is a combination of Billy Bob and Chuck E. Cheese. Conversely, Foxy is every inch a takeoff on Rolfe -- he even gets his own special stage.

Truth be told, there's not actually a lot in horror/fiction that scares me.
I've been into dark/creepy/evil stuff since I was a little girl, I guess I just got desensitised :p

I'm not surprised that the game's popularity exploded; it's cheap, it was promoted by some very popular YouTubers, its mechanics are easy to understand and get used to without breaking the nerve-wracking atmosphere, and the animatronics are as interesting as they are creepy (with Foxy apparently the universal favorite). I AM surprised by the giant influx of porn though. And knot jokes. :V

All things considered, Mark's playthrough is perhaps the most complete and comprehensive playthrough of FNAF on YouTube.

It might be interesting to see a GMod version of this. But then again, it sorta becomes more or less like Slender. And that type of game kinda dried off over the course of years.
I did hear that a sequel to Freddy's is in concept. But not certain,. Mayhaps, the guard is able to walk around then.

I like how you've listed the trademarks and copyrights of the characters and logo's here. Kinda wish other artists would respect these laws as well, instead of holding YCH auctions and basically making large amounts of money from Scott's creativity
I've dealt with copyright issues in the past, so I learned to give credit to original works in reference as much as I can.
