I tried to draw a vent for a comic book class I took once when I was younger and it ended up looking limke a cheese grater... But I have to say, this is a high-quality vent

Indeed. Especially if it's your first time trying to create an environmental background shot.

Background objects are generally my weakest point, I feel. I don't think I do backgrounds as well as I manage on characters.

I'm the same way only since i'm just starting to draw even my characters look pretty sketchy but I hope to get better over time and then start practicing with backgrounds. It looks like you got better over time!

Thank you. Indeed, I've been focusing hard on presenting good visuals for both characters as well as background objects lately. And you have a great attitude about it. All to often I've seen people that have wanted to draw quit because they weren't immediately good at something, or felt comfortable right out of the gate. I think having the confidence to proceed and GET good is one of the things we should all strive for. I have no doubt in your abilities and I know you'll do well. =)
