YES I KNOW THERE'S A FACE. I wish there wasn't so this could be more majestic, but oh well. My fault for not paying attention while painting.
Keep in mind: the last time I made and finished a watercolor piece was around 12 years ago.
Either way, I'm happy with the results. The face is annoying, but stuff like that happens in the clouds and mountainsides every day and people love talking about it when they notice it, so whatever.
Also: the sun looks terrible. I was using photo reference, and the sun is mostly white if you look at it IRL (Don't. Save your eyes.) or through a camera lens, but it also contains blue, green, pink, red, orange, and basically every color imaginable. The thing is, the center of the sun is WHITE during the daytime, or at least at the time of day I was trying to convey. Instead? I tried to add just a TINY amout of pigment and HOLYCRAPORANGEWHY. So then I spent 15 minutes picking up HUGE amounts of white watercolor (the only one that tends to be thicker due to being based on covering up mistakes or lightening areas) and trying to dab it onto the sun. It -kind of- worked. The sun is still mostly orange, but at least now it doesn't look like something blew up just above the trees...I hope.
Tools used:
- 3"x5" blank notecard (was the canvas)
- 0.5mm mechanical pencil (underdrawing)
- Kuretake Watercolor Pocket Set
- Tombow Mono PVC eraser (to attempt to erase the underdawing. Great eraser but watercolor apparently locks graphite to paper. Oops.)
