Introducing my pretty much finished prototype astromech Q1-01, with a common R2 for comparison.
This little guy comes loaded with all the tools for being, not a mechanic, but a smuggler.
Built by an aging smuggler that was finding himself in too many close calls, Q1 would take on the riskier side of the business, enjoying the anonimity that being a droid usually carries.
Unlike R2, he doesn't have flight jets that he can use once and then totally forget about, but he does have a trick up his sleeves. Just one of many secrets this little custom work droid hides.

Since I built him from scratch in 3ds max, I just may print this little guy sometime.
Eventually, I plan to build a full size one and run him in a droid parade somewhere.
Oh, and take him to Anthrocon with ears and a tail stuck onto him just for the laugh ^_-

hehehe awesome, now i really want one, though i may end up using mine as a mobile gaming computer more then anything. X3

Go ahead, but just the one please? He's a custom job ICly but I dont mind there being a Q1-02, but too many and he'd loose his individuality a bit.
As a gaming machine, that cargo bay would definatly be an advantage, just slide the whole machine out the back to work on it. Plenty of room inside for a liquid cooler too if thats your thing, and the vents on the front should provide a decent air intake. With his flat front, standard optical drives wouldnt look odd like they would on a curved R2, lots of panels you could put your USBs and audio connectors on...
Damnit now I want to make a pc case out of him too =p

Oh and lets not forget a webcam or kinekt behind his turret lenses, and a projector behind his holo-projector lens ^_-
i totally understand, though i was thinking of making him a Q2, and if i actually DO make a real one i'd totally make you one as well. but i don;t have a workshop to make it or the money yet but i can probably make a case, and maybe give the head some movement and my dad can help give him voice commands. and maybe when he's not plugged into a wall he can actually move around with you at conventions with an onboard battery pack and projector that pops out of the head.
